Killed while cloaked multiple times

I don't think any of these were on eGO servers, but I've been trying to learn to play spy more lately. It's just not a class I ever really tried to learn to play well. I usually play pyro, soldier, engy or medic. I got the clock and dagger invisi-watch, so I was trying it out. I was huddled off by myself completely cloaked, just sitting and waiting in a spot that you wouldn't expect a spy to be. An enemy player looked at me and then started shooting at me.

This has happened at least twice if not three times over the past couple of days. What the heck is going on? They shouldn't be able to see me and I don't hide in places you'd expect a spy to be hiding, so they're not just spy checking. Any ideas?

Geez, I hope not. That would be a huge bug. It would explain how I was noticed, though. Maybe I'll remove my halo when I play tonight and see if that makes a difference.
 
But any place you don't expect a Spy to hide is EXACTLY where you should expect a spy to hide! Unless snipers are taking you out, I think it's just rotten luck on your part.
 
It could also be yer hiding in a spot that is notoriously known to be a hiding spot for spies, neiby. I know from experience on 2fort there are several spots that spies seem to gravitate towards for a hiding spot. For example, behind the barrels next to the door leading to the sewers, the little nook under the stairway to the sewers.

The times I was killed, I definitely was NOT in a place you'd expect a spy to be. I was using the cloak and dagger, so I could stand anywhere I wanted and stay invisible as long as I needed to. In the two most recent cases last night, someone was walking by from a short distance away and then turned to look right at me, then came up and killed me like they knew I was there, not like they were simply spy checking. It was awfully suspicious.

I know where all the usual spy hiding spots are on the stock maps. I am an aggressive spy checker by nature, so I've been trying to find new spots to hide. The cloak and dagger opens up big opportunities because you can hide anywhere for as long as you need to without worrying about your cloak running out. Assuming you can stand still. I have one particularly devious spot to hide in 2fort that I love, but it only works with the C&D.
 
Some players tend to spy check wherever they go as I tend to do this a lot. Also, people who regularly play the map tend to know every spot where a spy could potentially hide...

I'm one of those players. :) I guess I'm just saying the way they behaved was a little odd. It didn't look like they were spy checking, per se. It was almost as if they could see me because they were headed one way, turned toward me and immediately went in for the kill.

Maybe playing spy has already made me paranoid. :)

Were the players that killed you Pyros? Because all Pyros get tingly pyro-senses when cloaked spies are near.

Heh heh....nope. As a pyro, usually, I understand that pyro-sense! The two most recent cases were soldier and engy.

It was probably just dumb luck on my part, but after it happened twice in the same game last night, I was starting to think something stranger was going on.
 
There's also the chance that someone else saw you hide there, and gave someone else a heads-up instead of taking care of you themself. But if it only happened twice, I wouldn't think anything of it.

Now, some of those bloody Snipers downstairs in Black Mesa sometimes... I'll question them.

In both cases, I was using the Cloak and Dagger and I had been cloaked the entire time. I had never uncloaked, so no one should have seen me.

It was probably just dumb luck and they were spy checking. It just looked really strange at the time, especially since it happened twice in the same game.

I will track them down and backstab them again tonight just to make up for it. :)

How close is a short distance? I maybe coulda been he got close enough to bump you? It does sound fishy, but it could've been incredible luck on his part. There's been several instances that I'd just randomly fire a rocket in a direction and catch a spy, but that's cause I'm spy checking ahead of me. Hmm.

Not even remotely close enough to bump into each other. I think maybe the soldier just didn't know what might be in the room I was hiding in, so he started shooting early and a rocket happened to nail me. The engy, though...that was weird. He went out of his way to walk up to me and start beating me with his wrench. It was weird. I'm sure it was just bad luck on my part.
 
In my opinion, while on other servers ive found that alot of other people do use hacks. When I used to join other servers I was head shot by the same person atleast 3 times while fully cloaked and when noone was around me. At the same time there are different types of hacks (if it was a hack) that allow the person using it to tell where all the other teams are (wall hacks ect). Then there are times when I randomly shoot at walls or corners or on top of boxes and find a spy lurking there and kill him and he screams out hacks! Could be coincidence or it could be hacks, if its not on our servers then you never know. I play only on our servers now.
