Killed while cloaked multiple times

I've had this happen on our servers a few times as well. Not sure if its been total blind luck or what, but at least 2 or 3 times I've been very suspicious. I'm wondering if there is something going on where spies are visible sometimes when they're not supposed to be. Just strange when people stop and basically look at you and then start shooting.

ive run into this, TONS, im one of those spies that has a neon sign attached to him wherever he goes cloaks or hides, that says SHOOT HERE, SHOOT THE SPY, really i just learn to live with it get back up on the horse and try again, if its the same person over and over again and they dont bump into you (you dont see your HUD picture or you hand/weapon flicker) then what i would do is ask an eG or eGO to come have a look in admin chat ;)

there are some people with those hacks but pyros, LOTS of pyros, will randomly set off flamethrowers just cuz, and sometimes other classes too, really sometimes you just have to cross your fingers and hold your breath. and also you have to remember, the enemy team can communicate with one-another, 2fort especially with 32 people is a cramped map i would'nt be surprised if, one or two times someone catches sight of you heading in that general direction, then sometimes its players, nay, the whole teams, divine mission to hunt you down and kill you dead, spy takes time and practice...dont feel bad if your killed alot ;) it happens to all of us

edit: even,. thinking about it, to frisky occasionally :P

TIP: hid with C&D in the middle of the bridge on 2fort they never suspect

It's better if you do that on a ledge of the bridge. The only characters that would ever have a possibility of bumping into you are burning people and Scouts.

Sounds like what happens when I play spy, the most annoying and funny thing is when a pyro is just running along and as soon as he passes by you he randomly starts spy checking even though you were cloaked the whole time.

It makes you think "OH COMON!"

iv been kicked by an admin becuase i ran into a room in black mesa and was about to rocket jump onto the ledge to the head crab room and a teammate told me there was a spy there on the ledge so i stopped and fired a direct crit rocket in there face. and im pretty sure the spy was like wtf that i run and and am about to jump than look straight at him and fire.

also im good at timing stuff in maps if someone tells me there is a spy at the front door i generally know exactly how long it takes them to get to the ramp room.

i used to do that in tfc the first wave of defensive would tell me exctally when a scout or medic get into the spiral and i would have i perfectly timed nade in there face at the bottom with out even ever seeing them.

These type of people are the paranoid ones. The pyros and soliders that have been backstabbed one too many times and it has messed with their head. They go around checking every nook and cranny, high and low for spies. Because the thought of getting backstabbed just one more time would utterly destroy them...

So...in my opinion that team probably just had some crazy paranoid people on it...Like the pyros that go around going *flame* *flame* *flame* *flame* every 2 seconds no matter how many people are around them...

I get entirely antsy about spies. I have shot several spies who are fully cloaked just out of blind luck. But mostly, the good spies don't make the same mistakes that those spies do. Some just wander right in front of a shot I'm about line up against their teammate. That's luck, but it's stupidity on their part.

If you get shot a lot when fully cloaked, you're not playing as well as you could. There are a lot of GOOD spies out there who totally dominate the other team, and you never hear them complaining.

On the same token, it goes without saying that there are some people who stoop so low as to hack. I ain't one of them. The truth is, and I say this humbly, but I don't need hacks to kick tail in TF2. Once you play enough, you develop certain senses, and you just play better. That goes for every game - not just TF2.

Just wanted to throw that out there. For you spies who can't seem to get the hang of it - just watch the good spies (i.e. Frisky Dingo ;) ) and imitate what they do. Talk to them. Learn their moves. Then you can learn how to repel the spies when you're not playing as one.

... just sitting and waiting in a spot that you wouldn't expect a spy to be.

I think that answers your question right there. From my experience playing as a spy, there are no spots that you wouldn't expect a spy to be. For this very reason, many people make very good use of the dead ringer watch.

People fire randomly at open spaces all the time. Especially more so if someone on their team just says the word spy. I don't even ask where... I just fire everywhere. Ammo is quite unlimited on TF2.

Also, you got to be careful where you cloak. Everyone knows your on limited juice.

I've been accused on several occasions for hacking because I knew where a cloaked spy was.

#1 cause of death among noob spies is: DISGUISING WHILE CLOAKED. If you do anything to your disguise while you are cloaked, you release a puff of smoke that is visible to others. Make sure you are hidden if you plan to uncloak or change disguises, they WILL know you are there.

After a while, you do get to know the map, as people say... there are spots that spies regularly hide (I can think of several in 2fort alone... near the sewer exits to the water and to the base, under the stairs in the courtyard, etc). I can also tell when I'm moving around if I'm bumping into something that shouldn't be there. Sometimes it is just lag, but I still jump around like an idiot and scream SPY! while firing in all directions just to be sure.

On the other hand, I've watched a lot of people get backstabbed because they totally missed a spy who made a stupid mistake! Using the C&D, but running out of cloak, for instance. Or decloaking in full view of another player, etc.

Try the deadringer, my favorite by far especially on pub servers. Even if they kill you they stay in the area a good 30 seconds or so trying to find out if you're really dead or not. This can give your team teh edge easily and makes the enemy team very paranoid.

Many times I see a spy cloak/decloak while chasing someone else. So, when i turn the corner. i can pretty much expect you in one of the corners. or close by.

Were you wearing the paper bag mask? Maybe they got scared of the floating paper bag? D:

In my opinion, while on other servers ive found that alot of other people do use hacks. When I used to join other servers I was head shot by the same person atleast 3 times while fully cloaked and when noone was around me. At the same time there are different types of hacks (if it was a hack) that allow the person using it to tell where all the other teams are (wall hacks ect). Then there are times when I randomly shoot at walls or corners or on top of boxes and find a spy lurking there and kill him and he screams out hacks! Could be coincidence or it could be hacks, if its not on our servers then you never know. I play only on our servers now.

Same thing happened to me when i was an e so long ago (last week) a guy always head shot me when i was invis spy standing on battlements in the 2fort map and moving round scoping out the map my advice is to ask an admin to monitor him my guy got banned so hahahaha hackers fail to the power of eGO!

I dunno if it works for everyone like this... but here's my attempt at explaining something I use to my benefit.

If a cloaked spy is shot by almost anything, they become slightly more visible for a brief time. I use this to hunt even good C&D spies, and to locate them when I'm hunting them down.

There's a lot of hate for spies (much of it deserved) since the spy patch. Given this, don't be surprised at the zeal with which people will hunt spies. Personally, if I even hear a little cloak noise somewhere in my base, I'm all over it.

All you need is the normal cloak watch, best one out there :) None of the new spy gear has helped me...

:glare: NO!!!! C&D is best imo and ive got my vids to prove it :P. In all reality its how you use the watch that makes it best for you and when and where you decide to begin your killing and then how easy it is for you to get away and do it again. I find the C&D best for these situations when someone is chasing me, I cloak and use misdirection or stand on a rail or box and watch as he passes me by and I have no need to worry about my cloak running out as I stay hidden. To each his own I guess, what ever works best for you :P

As for the attachment on this thread, only friendly players can see the Holloween spy hat while he is cloaked so no need to worry about it.
