People's Pocket medics

Yea...Im not a bad player but I rarely get a medic...I believe only you, FeatherFrog, heal me throughout a map on BM...

HAR!
"Not a bad player"!
Sabion will kill you with half a rocket, Maggot!

Whine whine whine, moan moan moan, other words I won't type here. You want medics to heal specific people? Step up to the autoclave, pull your gloves on and you heal somebody for a while. I don't mind dying while I'm healing someone because they never bothered trying to protect me. Happens all the time. All this moaning about "bad" medics who aren't doing the job you won't even try to do ... this gets old.

I do medic. But I only medic people who protect me or knows how to spy check, etc..... I will protect you if you're my medic.

I know how certain people play. and I'm not willing to risk a 25 point death healing players that run in without care. I like my skill points :P

if i only get a few kill assist and then die. It's not worth my time to be a medic.

Yes Sabion =] I rarely see any medics on you....

And 100% agreed, Cliff.

I rarely medic. but when I do... its usually Gortex or Sabion, Utoma, and Thereven sometimes.

I usually get caught on the team against galkafisher. so, we have to fight it out :chair:

Trust me, be thankful that he is a heavy, I never had that much trouble when he is a heavy.... but as a spy... jech.. :P But that was on dustbowl, not on mesa, speaking of dustbowl.... where is it, favorite servers dont show it anymore

Try finding the new IP for it, perhaps thats what it is, or we have the new holloween map on it, not sure. There has been talk about getting rid of servers or combining GPit with Dustbowl. Hope that helps.

Medichu, I choose you!

Gotta catch 'em all!

Medichu! Medichu!

Have you caught Woodstockmander? Or the ever elusive NurseFromTexasSaur?

As a career medic, I make a point of trying to give everyone I come across heals. However, I do tend to follow people I KNOW can keep me protected from attacks. If the situation calls for it, We'll take longer routes where the rest of the team may not be, but its normally to get a better angle on a dug in opposition, and secure our victory.

I will litterally cry, crap a brick, and violently shake a person to death if that happens.!!!!!( in no particular order)

:facewall:
:cursing:

If a medic does that, he sucks as a medic since he's not playing it right in the first place.

He's not accomplished his main objectives as a medic, which means that he's not worth your time protecting.

Also pocket medics fail. And it sounds selfish of you if you must have a medic to play. Play a little without a medic. It's not a big deal.

Ironically, when I play soldier, I often call for a pocket medic.

The difference: I actually communicate with my medic and inform him of other heal targets

I've been accused of not healing everyone on the team, (whining is what I call it, and it's the quickest way to never get a heal from me) but only by people who don't play with me regularly. Anyone who plays with me often knows I'll heal anyone, especially other medics. I enjoy healing teammates, not to mention, it builds ubers faster. However, if I'm healing a player who is taking hits on the front line and there's someone behind me spamming for medic, they'll have to wait. I'm choosy about who I'll uber/kritz or go behind enemy lines with. I won't even play "pocket medic" to my closest IRL friends if they aren't cautious. The person I'm healing doesn't have to have a mic. What's most important to me is that he listens and that he is cautious. If I repeatedly alert the person I'm healing to a threat and it goes ignored, he instantly drops to the bottom of my priority list and will likely never receive an uber from me. What I try to live by in-game is, "A dead medic or one who is dying often is no good to anyone."

Sorry for the wall of text. I'm pretty passionate about being a medic. :P

Time for the rebuttal from a specialized soldier player.

Soldiers are the ones covering the medics, the fastest way to lose your cover is not to heal people. If they call for a buff, give them a buff, if they call for a heal, give them the health because in the end, the soldiers are the ones who can best assess a situation since they're the ones doing the fighting and they know what they're doing.

Think about this scenario, Dustbowl stage 1, as a soldier I often assist the left group by rocketjumping up from the trench to flank from behind. Yet 75% of the time medics are too busy sticking to 450 health heavies and 285 health demomen.

A simple 3 second burst from the medigun determines whether it's a soldier at 60% health or a soldier at 140% health flanking for you.

If there is a scout burning to death or at 1 health in the back while a heavy with a 450 health cushion is taking hits, any sane medic would heal the scout with a simple 2 second burst before returning to the heavy.

The conclusion we can arrive at is simple: If you are a medic and your teammates are dying of easily preventable causes (e.g fire, long range pistols and shotguns), you are not doing your job.

How nice to know that whenever my team wins it is because I, as a medic, have done my job. With this refreshing attitude I am amazed at the number of times that I enter a server and see no medics at all on my team. You would think more people would play medic as the entire win/lose thing rests upon their shoulders alone.

That said Medics need to remember:
Medics should be trying to heal by the following priority:
People on fire.
People with red medic balloons.
People with white medic balloons.
Anyone else on their team.

I wasn't boasting about "amazing" heavy/medic combos or "exploits," as you call them. It was merely an example of why medics will stick with some players more than others, regardless of class. When I was referring to healing a player taking hits on the front line before healing one standing behind me, I was not referring to heavies with 450 health, nor did I state that. When I say "taking hits," I mean hits that are doing serious damage well beyond the overheal cushion. It varies with the situation.

I can't speak for other medics, but there are many other classes besides heavy that I heal just as much, if not more. If/when I can give someone a buff or a heal, I'm glad to do it. What class I will uber will also depend on the number and placement of sentries.

When I posted, I didn't intend to get into a heated debate, nor will, about what makes a good medic and what doesn't. I don't claim to be a "specialized" or great medic. I was simply sharing my point of view about something I enjoy.

I'm sorry to hear you've been neglected by medics, Echelon. :( It is quite tragic.

medics dont like to die (no one does)

sure, it may be better for them to heal other players, but if they die in the process, many will be dissuaded from doing so

if you dont like pocket medics not healing you, get friends or kill more people

i typically go medic-less because of my play style (i am consistently agressive and never "pull back" in a pub setting, its a pub, its for fun, and i want to have as much action as possible, winning is just a bonus for me in a pub, but not a necessity

medics will avoid me in a pub because I dont really protect them, im out to kill and cause damage, not to hide and build ubers- i dont blame them for it, id do the same if i was medicing someone employing that strategy

this playstyle is completely different from a competitive environment, but in a pub, shoot, bring on the action

No one ever ubers me when I'm on a pyro. =(

I have exactly two pyro achievements left. One is to do 1m fire damage, the other one is to kill 3 people with 1 uber. >.> Bad medics, bad. >=(

I remember couple times when I met actually bad medics. First time was at BM when I was a heavy and spawn camping the other team. The medic would first heal nicely, but at the time I had to go get some more ammo, the medic would whip out his syrigen gun and try to take over for me... And get himself killed, forcing me to fall back.

Other time that I remember was on the other day at the Payload server where we had a solo medic who never or rarely heal anyone. Not even me when I was a medic, was down to 30 something health and almost had an uber ready. Needless to say, I didn't heal him at all myself for the duration he was playing there. :P
