Windows 7 Wireless Adapter

Does anyone know of a wireless internet adapter compatable with Windows 7?

Most will work with windows 7, if the installation says it's not supported on this version of windows, all you have to do after plugging in the wireless adapter is go to your Device Manager, find the adapter, click Update Drive Software.

After that, it will have 2 options, choose the bottom one that says browse folders. Make sure your installation disk for your adapter is in your CD drive. Navigate to the CD folders, and select the DRIVER folder, click next, and you should be set, it will find it, and use it.

It worked with Windows 7 RC 32 Bit, but when I went to Regular Windows 7 64 Bit, it would tell me it's not supported when I tried the installation from the CD. I did exactly what I just said earlier and it worked.


If the installation works without giving you an OS unsupported message, you might want to still do what I said, It might be better to not install the device software and just the driver, because windows manages networks perfectly find, and it could cause problems/annoyances. Mine showed me connected to 2 different wireless networks at the same time when I was connected to one lol, so I went into MSCONFIG and disabled the program from starting up on start-up and let windows manage everything(this was on the 32 Bitt RC)

Edit: According to the reviews, there are now Windows 7 drivers on their website, so you might want to download those onto a cd or your Hard Drive and you should be set. The method I said works for other devices too in-case you ever need it anyway.

Also, Win7 has a ton of default drivers that can *just* connect you online to then download the official drivers. Lastly, checking reviews on newegg for an adapter you like and searching "Windows 7" with Crtl+F will tell you whether or not there are drivers out there, you dont need to be the guinea pig!

Sorry to kinda steal your topic, but which is better an internal (plugged into the mobo and using a PCI slot) or a USB receiver? I'm building my own desktop, but it'll be connected wirelessly. I couldn't decide on which one to do, they're about the same price.

Id prefer to have mine built in via PCI, but really it's up to you. You're not going to really see performance one way or the other unless the Wireless Adapter is USB 1.1 and even then it'd be minimal.

*DISCLAIMER* I do not know that much about wireless (I stick to wired now), but from my personal experience the following was true:

I found the reception on a USB stick can be better, depending on the placement of the tower or USB stick.

I had a DLink card in this build of my PC, the reception wasn't very good. Since then I switched to a linksys USB stick, and the reception was much better.

The difference seemed to be having the wireless signal having to travel through the case, walls and floor vs. the USB stick's signal just through the floor/walls.

It's really up to you though; I still recommend doing a lot of research on the topic before buying.

You provide a valid point giraffe. The back of my case would be the furthest from my router, where as the USB is in the front.

Wmp600n. The most websites say it not supports windows 7 but i think they just made a driver for it.
