I say L4D2 because it has some re-playability, whereas Borderlands doesn't really.
Yeah... neither did Diablo. Lulz.
It's all an opinion. I thought Left4Dead was fun once through but had no urge to play through it again, and I don't like the multiplayer. Easy choice for me.
It all comes down to what do you want to play more? A straightforward run and gun shooter with zombies and set paths no customization. Or do you want a game with RPG elements that is based on an FPS gameplay style.
Play the Left4Dead 2 Demo and see how you like it, maybe that will help your decision. Also, if you enjoyed item hunting in Diablo (2) then you'll love borderlands and it will have replay value. Its one of those games that for some people it has insane re-playability, and for some they play through once and don't have any urge to continue hunting for new/better guns, or level new characters.
Both will have DLC, however Borderlands already has a better track record with DLC. Left4Dead (the original) didn't release any DLC for what? Around a year? Right before the new game drops.
But in all honesty, it comes down to what you feel like playing right now, and if you like item hunting, as well as if you prefer a semi-open world and RPG elements, or the run-and-gun follow a path approach.
