Ok this just came up on the pldx site. http://www.pldx.com/blog.php/2009/06/team-fortress-2-movie-recording-guide/

All it is a config that gives lossless recording of TF2 and is as easy as Fraps.

Movie recording config made by Mats.
The program (GUI) made by Aron.

I have already downloaded it and used it and its very high quality. So I would recommend it to anyone who wants a higher quality record.

The web site is pretty confusing. If you've used this program, maybe you could explain better what it does and why someone should use it instead of this guide?

Does this convert demos to movies (like the guide I linked) or makes movies on the fly (Fraps) or both or neither (ie, something else)...? :confused1:

Not sure id be interested in this for a few reasons:
1) Not sure if you get HD quality
2) Not sure if you can piece your vid together or if you have to record the whole demo at one time.
3) Not sure if you can add music to it afterwards.
4) Not sure if you can FF the clips where you are waiting to get a kill

Just a few things im wondering about.

OK this config creates movies on the fly as you would call it instead of creating a demo. After you record the video, can import it and edit it the way you see fit. As long as your editing program (Avid, Final Cut, etc) supports the type of movie file that you have converted your demo to. In this case how ever it will come out in AVI TGA format both which can be imported into any editing system.

Heres a look at the interface:

This is just one of the basic views. And up in the corner you can see it does high quality all the time. More later.

The rest of the information you need is in the guide on the page. The instructions are pretty simple and its free. If you need anymore help please feel free to message my steam account or here on the forums with your questions.

Interesting, I'll try this this evening seeing as though every other recording program hates my computer.

I'll also give this a try later... it should work with games that aren't Steam games right? (i mean i don't see why it wouldn't but better to ask anyways)

oh and hi Kevin!

I don't think it will work with anything but TF2... if you will observe the 'Start Team Fortress 2' button and the 'TF2 is ready to launch' notification. On second though, maybe that just because he has TF2 selected. Oh well, we'll see when we get home now won't we ;)

but i don't see any way to select other games... that is just strange :\
oh well i never had anything good to record TF2 with anyways, so even if that's all this does it'll probably be useful.

(P.S. how u here on mac? does Moon know u do this stuff :P?)

So far this is just for TF2. I will post anything about updates or any other recorders from them

this looks cool :) if i can convert my demos streight to movie files without havieng to go through the tedious process of the "startmovie" command, then that would be fantastic! if you could get this for Left 4 Dead too (that means, Left 4 dead, not Left 4 dead 2 since i dont have it) that would be awesome :D

I never use this command and not sure why you do. I just create my demo and open it using Shift + F2 to open a small window and just load the file I want and then use FRAPS to do the rest. No where do I ever use startmovie, but thats just me.

That's because you're using Fraps and "we" aren't. We're using TF2 to convert the demo to video. That's why we use startmovie.

it because with this we are using the game engine to render the video this way allows you to make video with maxed out settings even if your computer cant handle it and still get a perfect fps.

Just a few things im wondering about.

1) it 's the same resolution that you play the game in
2) you can enter and stop recored whenever you want and use a video editor to piece it togeather
3)just use a video editor
4)just use a video editror

Well if your comp cant handle FRAPS, then yeh its probably better to use this program ;)

also this is just an app to make it eaiser to set the options all the same stuff can be done with no extra programs and just the game engine

Exactly my thoughts.

Interesting, especially if it's lossless and better than fraps?

My question is then, Why is this not THE recorder?

this app is not recorder it is just a gui for the source one which can be a bit cumbersome for people who rent familiar with the source cli this is how i always did my vids for source games
