I tried and failed to overclock my 7600gt. It was starting to die anyways so I figured I'd speed up it's death :)

I am looking for a relatively cheap (sub $75) replacement until I eventually build up a new system.

Right now I'm running an off the shelf acer aspire amd 4200 with 2gb ram and as previously mentioned 7600gt card.

I don't want to replace my power supply so I am looking for a decent replacement card (gotta be pci) that will run ok on the power supply I have (350w)

Anyone have experience or suggestions with a similar system? I am thinking the 9500 or there abouts.

I mostly play tf2 and noticed that my frames were dropping badly before my card died.

I was thinking about getting this card unless someone has experience with something better for the price:

Thanks for any advice guys :)

At first you said must be PCI, but then you continued to link to a PCIe 2.0 card. I assume that originially you meant PCIe; is this assumption correct?

i didn't know there was a difference? that is how much of a noob i am. I looked at the card online and it appeared to have the same kinda of slot that my 7600gt had. i assumed it would fit my motherboard. maybe i was wrong?

on closer examination, it looks like i need the pci express x16 connection? i found the 7600gs on newegg that looked like mine. will any pci connected card work?

If you have a PCIe x16 slot on your motherboard, you can use any PCIe x16 or PCIe x16 2.0 card.

thanks for all the replys guys

sorry for the confusion. based on the illustration provided i have determined that i have:

1 PCIe x16 slot that the current narfed card sits in

2 available PCI slots that nothing is in

also i looked at the my power supply and it is only 300w

here is my sytem info:

I am going to look at the card listed for the PCIe x16 slot. i don't want to upgrade my power supply but i will if i absolutely have too :(

You shouldn't have to upgrade the PSU. Especially when you're getting a low/mid card.

Ta Da!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...4&cm_re=Radeon_HD_4670-_-14-125-244-_-Product

From Tom's Hardware:
With the release of Nvidia's GeForce GT 240, ATI's Radeon HD 4670 is no longer the most powerful reference card without a dedicated power connector. However, it remains a compelling solution under the $75 price point, which Nvidia's solution simply hasn't hit yet.

Performance is excellent and power usage is very low, making this product an impressive performer all-around. Its accelerated clock rates and modestly-higher price tag are worth considering if you originally had your eye on the Radeon HD 4650.

me likey! it won't cause a problem going from an nvidia chipset to a radeon on my system will it? i assume you load the drivers then pop the card in and away you go? also, i could not find whether or not it said it would handle a 300w power supply. i have it in my shopping cart ready to check out so i'll look it up and see if i can find it's power requirements.

Shouldn't cause a problem. I would uninstall the radeon drives, shut down your computer, replace the card, boot up, and install the nvidia drivers.

Whoops I said that backwards.

lol. i was just about to post asking if you had it backwards when you posted this

a few of the reviews of folks running this card say they have a stock 300w power supply and it works fine for them. that seals it for me. thanks for all the help guys.

It pulls all its power from the slot (your 300W PSU will be fine) and will stomp your poor old 7600gt into the dirt.

i do have a 7600gt that im looking to sell if you would like it. when i get back home i can give ya more details about it. if ur interested, ill sell it to ya for 40, unless u wanna pay up to $100 for a new one. i never had a single issue w/ my 7600gt, esp for simply updating the driver, but that was it. it worked like a charm. only reason i dont need it is cause im now using a 9800gt, which suites me quite well. it was made by 1 of the big companies that makes great video cards, but ill be home tomorrow night, so ill be able to give ya the full details. now i will be honest in saying that it wont come w/ the original packaging because frankly i dunno where it disappeared to. i have an older ati x800 which i may try & put the 7600gt in there, not to mention burn ya a cd with the latest nvidia driver, that is if youre interested in the video card. it comes w/ 1 vga slot & 1 dvi slot, so u wont need an adapter.
