This is going on in downtown Austin right now:
Breaking News: Man Possibly Barricaded Inside Gun Shop
Posted: Nov 13, 2007 06:40 AM
Austin police are urging motorists to stay away from the area of 2900 San Gabriel. They said they are on the scene of a possible barricaded person inside McBride's Gun Shop.
Lamar and San Gabriel are closed between 29th & 32nd.
According to their Web site, McBride's has "one of the largest firearms inventories in the nation."
Gunshopfinder.com says "[McBride's] ammunition inventory is unequalled, with calibers for every type of game or shooting sport."
A public information officer with the Austin Police Department said cops responded to an intrusion alarm at McBride's Gun Shop around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.
When officers arrived, they noticed evidence of forced entry into the building and guns strewn everywhere inside the business.
Officers said they immediately backed out of the building and called SWAT to the scene.
Shortly after leaving the building, APD said the alarm company used by McBride's Gun Shop called the police department to tell them they were still detecting movement inside the store.
APD turned off the electricity inside the building. APD officials said they don't know who cut the phone lines inside the building.
We're told officers will be treating this scene as if someone is still inside the building until they can safely enter the business.
KXAN Austin News has crews on the scene and will have the latest as soon as information becomes available.
