The Big Red One

Woot, never expected them to Nerf the Soldiers this much! I mean, soldiers who can't rely on splash damage anymore? That means they will actually have to aim at their targets for once.

ooo.... love this new rocket launcher...

WHY?!?!?!

1. I hit enemies straight on most of the time
2. I love predictiing where people will run 2 (medipacks are free-kill magnets!)
3. More Boom Boom Pow!

demoman needs new taunt -> wave goodbye to your head FREEDOOMM (sword cuts head off)
soldier needs too -> wave goodbye to your sentry engineer (sniping RL wtf)

I don't think Pyros and Engineers are going to like the new rocket launcher very much. I wonder how hard the new rockets are going to be to airblast?

Perfect unlock for a quake3 player. I am already used to the faster rockets, hitting them dead on and juggling. Plus in quake you have to do all this with the players moving 10x faster than tf2.

the new rockets can't be harder than nades or flares, and still trevel in a straight line... I think this is gunna be a pyro field day. as the extra dmg means less to reflect, and since most soldiers are innacurate we'll probably take less hits anyways.

But at close range there's one thing that makes ALL the difference.

Minicrits on air targets.

that's right, an airblast + reflect is game over for a soldier, because with the added damg their 200hp should be just about spent (if not gone), and if theres anything left, half a second of flames will end the battle quickly

I play pyro... can you tell :P?
and hopefully the chargin' Targe can be "deflected". It'd be comforting to know that that charging demo in the vents might be halted by a well timed airblast... even though flames do less dmg...

I think that the new rocket launcher will be hell in the vents, vent heavy does not like D:
may become vent soldier :thumbup1:, but I doubt it :)

YES! Finally a chance to use my Unreal Tournament 2K4 Insta-gib skillz.

Time to do some lazor pew pew.

And I need this weapon the INSTANCE it comes out, I need to do some killing before it gets a sure nerf.

Same :P

Wish the splash radius isn't so low, because I need that to prefire around corners. Other than that, the weapon is awesome, and it looks like it has a scope on it. Hopefully it's useable?

I really doubt that the aiming reticle on that launcher is functional. If it were functional, it would come with a deployment movement penalty, thus rendering the launcher useless.

The severely reduced splash was the only way they could make this happen without massive no-skill demo whining.

I doubt many pyros will be reflecting these rockets without a reflect-hack. I believe 80% faster puts them somewhere between flares and arrows? It seems like they'll be as fast as flares, and very few of those ever get reflected. Besides, soldiers already have trouble with awesome pyros, while owning crappy pyros.

Looks like I've got to get used to the new Rocket launcher's velocity. Going to take me a day or something. :<

That's a great question McP. I've been wondering the same thing. Is "force" applied to a target directly related to blast radius? It seems not, since stickies have </= radius of rocket explosions. Hopefully they won't have messed up rocketjumping without saying anything.

If rocketjumping is unaffected, my guess is that this will have equal or greater juggling ability as well.

The current rockets have a splash damage range of about 6 feet / 2 meters. The new one will have a radius of about 1.8 feet / 0.6 meters.

Current rockets do about 110 damage per hit. New ones will do about 137.5 per hit.

One should also note that an 80% speed increase means the new rockets move a bit less than twice as fast as the current rockets.

Also, next time you play soldier, make note of how many of your rockets you see actually hit people. You'll find it's quite a bit less than you thought.

Kritz will be given to regular rockets before these as most kritz kills are due to splash damage.

I see this weapon being used the same as the Huntsman.
