Because of the mad drops last night, I ended up with all of the soldier weapons and the chargin' targe for the demoman.

I think I have a new favorite class, maggots.

The only problem I foresee is that the Soldier weapons are too powerful. Wouldn't surprise me if Valve nerfs these in time. Use them while you can!

These weapons just seem so useful compared to the other class updates. Except for the medic update, the soldier and demoman weapons just seem so useful and necessary.

The Soldier

The Direct Hit
This is the rocket launcher for people who aren't just W + M1 soldiers. You can't just spam rockets and pray; you have to aim, shoot where your enemies will be, and actually hit them because the splash damage is almost non existent. Oh, and it's fast, really really fast.

The Buff Banner
OMgawd this is so awesome. You charge it by doing damage, and it doesn't take that much. When it's full, you sound your horn, switch back to your weapon and you (and any teammates around you!) are doing crit damage. Haven't timed it yet, but it feels like it last longer than the medic's kritzkrieg charge.

The Equalizer
You're behind enemy lines, half health and no medic in sight? Whip this out and you're dealing death.

The Demoman

The Eyelander
Didn't have a chance to play with this myself, but lots of others were running around like lunitics lopin' blokes heads off. yuck. Being chased by a giant sword feels a little medevil in TF2.

The Chargin' Targe
Becasue this replaces your sticky launcher, I'm not a fan. When you activate it, you carge (fast!) at your enemy and can pin them to a wall. I guess if you had the eyelander it would be a great melee combo.

The Scottish Resistance
The sticky bomb launcher we've been waiting for! you can set-up multiple sticky traps and detonate them remotely (line-of-sight only). Great for watching multiple entrances. Looking forward to playing with this when I finally get it!

Rip off a couple heads and retreat, then go into a pipe bomb spam when you're at maximum health and speed. You turn into quite the offensive machine.

The chargin targe plus the highlander is sick, this might get a nerf also, but who knows.

The best update evar?

Short answer: yes

Long answer:
yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
eeeeeeeeeees.

I'm just getting the feel of the direct hit..and it_rocks.
Sad tho that you don't like the tagre. Most fun I ever experienced in TF2. And even tho I still don't have my sword...the bottle is just...lol. give it a try :D

-love this line. lol

The melee weapons are my beef with this update. The weapons should be balanced so that both are completely viable in their own way in playstyle.

There's almost NO reason to use the bottle when you have Eyelander, unless you absolutely refuse to melee and don't want the 25 HP hit.

The Equalizer is obnoxiously better than the shovel. There's very little reason to use the shovel period as a soldier because if you run out of all four rockets and all six shotgun shells, you're doing something really wrong anyways and reloading the shotgun is still more effective. The equalizer, when you're injured, pulls ahead of the shotgun because at 50% HP you're guaranteed (period) to two-hit (or one) every class but the heavy. This is in addition to being able to hot-swap to it for the speedboost to get out of bad situations. EDIT: The only real downside to the Equalizer is really the same downside that the Sandman used to have. The fact that you have it might cause you to use it more than you should and get you killed, the same way that a lot of scouts feel the "need" to flag down and kill someone they stunned, heedless of the danger, just because they did it.

Compared to the rest of the weapons,

The two sticky launchers are balanced, I'd say. You can either air burst or you can keep a spot on lockdown easier with stickies.

The direct hit and the rocket launcher seem balanced. You can either rely on pinpoint aim to try and put down single enemies quicker and moving on to new targets, or you can splash to go for multikills and awkward shots.

I haven't played with the buff banner yet, but from what I've been seeing of other soldiers it's a pretty decent trade. You lose a lot of effectiveness at finishing off enemies without your shotgun but the kinda reverse-jarate effect for the minicrits every now and then seems to make up for that.

I'm just glad they actually updated this time.

Targe/EyeLander make for the most fun I have ever had playing TF2. I simply can't imagine the game without them.

Pair a Buff Banner soldier with a medic, Kritz for preference, regular rocket launcher for synergy. Try to stick with the pack. Proceed to Rock Face.

Its incredible, especially with all the friendly soldiers/demos around. You build up the banner (much more quickly with vanilla launcher), use that up, use a kritz to build up the damage again SUPER fast, use another banner charge...

You can basically wade through an enemy team as an insane, explosion spamming, mini-critting firestorm that is (almost) as much fun as getting 13 decapitations in a single life.

All 3 solider weapons are epic and VERY USEFUL.

Demo weapons are a bit less, but still very high on the spectrum.

Allow me to introduce you to the axtinguisher. Best melee weapon ever. Sure, they have to be on fire. But, to be worthy of the hobnailed pyro boots, anyone who gets close enough to melee you had better be on fire.

true idol true.... too bad i crafted my cherished axtinguisher on accident :(
I only have the charger and the direct hit , but i can say that the chargin targe is AMAZING...
charging enemies and killing 3 in a row with crit bottles? AWESOME

it's useful to get to front lines before nade spam, and to get away from the area thats about to be spammed with enemy artillery. I'd say, although it's a close call, that it actually IS better than the sticky bomb launcher.
