As stated in tonights meeting (12/22/09) we have brought up a BF1942 server for testing.

The ip for this server is 208.43.76.157

The Game version running is 1.6 - do not update to 1.61b

For those of you who already have the game, not the complete collection, but the individual games you will need to update your punkbuster. For those with the complete collection, your punkbuster will automatically be updated to the current version.

To update punkbuster, you need to download this file pbsetup.zip

And do the following:

After downloading and opening the file, click Add Game.

This will bring up a new window, click the drop box and choose Battlefield 1942 (it will automatically add the correct game path). Then click Add Game.

After your game has been added, click on it and the click Check for Updates, the rest is all automatic, after it has finished, just click ok and you are free to close pbsetup.

The native resolution for BF1942 is a maximum of 1024x768 (4:3 ratio) within the game options itself. Now I for one cannot play on such a small resolution. I have done quite a bit of research on it, and have been able to make any resolution I want, although it can sometimes cause the text to be a bit blurry, with some resolutions but not others.

What you need to do for your custom resolution is the following.

Locate your VideoCustom.con and Video.con files, normally located here

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\Profiles\Profile name

We'll start with Video.Con

When you open this file, you should see something like this...

Code:
rem *** Generated ***
game.setGameDisplayMode 800 600 16 0
game.setDetailTexture 4
game.setShadows 1
game.setEnvironmentMapping 1
game.setGraphicsQuality 3
game.setLightmaps 1
game.setRenderWhenSpawnMenu 1
game.setMenuViewdistance 100
game.setEffectsQuality 3
game.setPerformance 3
What we are looking for is the game.setGameDisplayMode.

What the default shows is that the game will run at 800x600 with a colour depth of 16, and no current refresh rate (which is fine, because your monitor will auto determine it)

You can change this to what you prefer for example, edit the line to show this instead..

EXAMPLE
Code:
 game.setGameDisplayMode 1360 768 32 60
Then you can save the file and then you need to set it to read only so the game does not over-write it - right click on the file, choose properties, click read only and click apply.

After you have done that you will need to do basically the same thing with the VideoCustom.com file.

Open the file and change the game.setGameDisplayMode to exactly the same as what you did in the video.con file above, save and make read only.

DO NOT BE ALARMED if when you start the game it starts in a small resolution, the lobby will always start that way and will always be that way, but when you join a server, it will change for you to the resolution you have set.

If you have mulitple profiles, I would suggest doing the same thing to all of them.

cannot create the c:\program files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield
1942\Mods\bf1942\settings\Profiles\Default\video.con file.

make sure that the path and file name are correct.

any ideas on what could be causing this error? thanks

BTW I'm using vista 64 and logged in as administrator

I have the full collection, so I should be good.

I accidentally updated to 1.61. Does that mean that I can't join?

Here's what you have to do:

  • Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\

  • Click on Compatibility Files below the address bar in Windows Explorer.

  • Open up your profile folder by going to Profiles --> Your Name

  • Open Video.con and VideoCustom.con and edit them with Notepad, but save them to your Desktop first.

  • Once you save them, move them back to your profile folder and overwrite the existing ones.

  • The final step would be setting Video.con and VideoCustom.con as Read-only so the game doesn't update your custom settings.

You'll have to reinstall the game and apply the 1.6.19 client patch.
