So, I just got my new monitor,
and I would like to get a new GPU to show it off.
I don't really have a budget, but I don't want to spend too terribly much (like past $300).
The resolution I play at is 1920x1080, and I would like to get a constant 60 FPS.
Any input would be appreciated.

P.S. I don't care if its ATI or nVIDIA.

5850 is right at the $300 mark and will give you excellent performance. BUT if you wait till like March, nvidia will have released their next gen, meaning you will be able to either get one of there cards, or one of ATI's for cheaper.

yea you could just wait to see, wouldn't hurt waiting like 2-4 months depending on when the Fermi gets released, if they don't run into any problems then they are on track to release them march......the 5850 is great right now at $300 giving you the best performance for the price.

I wouldn't expect the Nvidia GPU's to be in your price range though, they will probably be pretty expensive at first but will likely drive down the ATI 5800 prices.

I would expect the equivalent of the GTX 260 to be $300-$350 at launch.

Just because the budget goes up to $300 doesn't mean that I want to shell out that much.
And I guess it would help to know the games I play:
Source Games
And a bunch of the new games coming out this year. I would like to have DX11.
How are the HD 5770's at 1080p? And I could just CFX, too.

5770 will do all that you want it to, but the 5850 would last you longer. If you have a CFX board you could always get a 5770 now and add another down the road for cheap. I'd say get a 5850 or a 5770 but only if you have a CFX board. Up to you.

Hm.
Depending on the prices when Fermi launches,
I might get the equivalent of the GTX 260, or maybe an HD 5850 or 5770 depending on the price. Gah, I would like to get one right now, but Fermi is supposedly going to be really good.

yup......fermi finally has a brand new architecture that is supposed to make it very fast

Its all up to you, i would personally wait just to see the performance of one of the fermi cards and see how much the price drops on the ATI cards then make my decision.

2x5770 isn't bad, its about equal to a 5870 while performing better in games that support dual-card solutions.
The 5850 is of course the best performance you can get pretty much at $300 and will let you CFX in the future for even better performance. You can actually wait for a 5950 if you want, they come out Q1 2010 and i think they are gonna be around $400-500, just like the 5970 is $200 cheaper than CFX 2 5870's i think the 5950 is supposed to be around the same thing.

Basically, just wait and see wat happens, a lot of big GPU things will be happening Q1 2010

Yeah, but I dun liek to has low quality and/or low res and/or low frames :crying:

EDIT: Any cards that would hold me over until Fermi?
Cheaper the better

5770's are pretty low end in the 5000 series.

I wish they made a 5820 or something, then I would have gotten ATI, but a 5770 is cheap but is 4870 speeds, and a 5850 is great speeds but expensive. Something like a rebagged 4890.

a single 5770 is fairly slow but have you seen the crossfire benchmarks?? the thing scales amazingly and pretty much matches 5870 speeds most of the time while beating it also and losing in like 2 games by very little FPS

ATI said they will be releasing more mainstream GPU'S soon, prob around Fermi launch they said

5770.

Nvidia has disappointed me with their crazy prices or I would say GTX 260.

lol wait.........y would u want to get a card to hold u until Fermi??? Fermi comes out in like 3 months, unless you make back the money and don't mind...its a waste of money

The 5770 is the way to go tho if you really do want one for that short of a time

No problem, you won't be disappointed I'm sure.

When fermi does come and and if you find a card you like, you have to try out the Cuda and Physx. One of the main reasons I like them so much.

Because I can't stand having unstable frames that are from 30 - 60+ without VSync so theres also tearing (ugh).
With VSync on, I get a choppy 30 or a choppy 60.
I just can't stand it.

I bought a XFX GTX260 from Newegg for $190, it also came with COD:MW however.

From the games that I tried it handled everything with ease.
