BF Bad Company 2 PC Beta Discussion Thread

Have you not played Battlefield before?

I own MW2 and after playing the beta I can honestly say when March comes around MW2 will be off my Harddrive.

You need to play it first before saying something so drastic

Good job, your pretty qualified to make that judgement after playing 60 hours of beta..

ohwait

Just because they are both games of modern warfare does not mean they are even remotely close.. This game is soooooooo different from COD it would take like 9 pages to explain how much better it is.

Atleast try before jumping to a rediculous speclation.

I never said anything in my post claiming that I was more qualified than any of you. I made a simple observation.

This game is producing the exact same hype as MW2. And that's all that's coming from these nextgen FPS games, hype. BC2 will at least provide pc gamers the ability to run servers, and from my experience with vehicles in fps games, it's just no fun.

Even from the trailers and such on this game. One video is dedicated to remote demolishing a building. Yeah, the guy gets two kills, but it's all for the look, it lacks anything really amazing in the game play aspect except for destructible cover.

I'm not saying the game is bad, I'm just pointing out that I don't see much development in the aspect of game play. While Insurgency on the other hand is changing their plans for Beta3 in order to compete with games like these, and are attempting to redefine fps games.

It's funny when a free mod like Team Fortress or Counter-Strike or DotA or Insurgency comes along and completely changes the way games are played and developed. The irony is that the modders have modest budgets, and tend to produce better ideas. They may not be as well polished and up to date as far as physics and graphics, but they are always years ahead in concept.

With that said, I'll probably buy BC2 for the pc when it goes on sale. :)

I haven't followed everything in this thread, or whatever discussion your post is a part of, but from what you just said I got this out of it: The only thing BC2 offers that is different from other FPS' is destructible environments.

If what I received what what I was meant to receive, this is my response:

What did MW2 MP offer that was different from MW MP? Perks and maps.

Currently, the only popular FPS' I can think off of the top of my head is Team Fortress, MW, MW2, BF Series, CS,

Not ONE of those series of games have much in common other than being an FPS where you shoot people. Call me stubborn, but there is no way you can convince me the game-play of any of those are remotely the same. The game-play of all of them vary enormously, which brings me to my point.

The destructible environment affects game-play by an amount you can only understand if you play the game. When playing the first part of Port Valdez for a long enough period that all the trees are cut down, the ground has many holes in it, and pieces of buildings are blown off or the building is gone entirely will change each teams behavior. You can't hide and replenish/heal behind that wall anymore, you can't conceal yourself between those trees, and so much for retreating to that building over there. It may seem like a destructible environment is just a simple add on, but it's not. As stated earlier, you have to play it to see how much is changes game play.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you truly seem to believe BC2 is just like MW2 but with vehicles + destructibility.

Consider these

- How much will destructibility REALLY affect game-play (I've explained part of this)
- How much does each class affect game-play? (The medic being able revive is something that encourages going into the front lines. MW does not have "Front lines")
- The size of the maps and amount of people. (MW maps are fairly small)
- The game modes and rules.
- The overall way the game is played. (In MW you camp or search for an enemy to kill. In BC2 you have no doubt where the enemy is, or if you're a defender, you know they'll be coming to you.)

I don't see why you could think it offers nothing new, unless you've never played the Beta. Before I played it I did figure it to be simply MW but with bigger maps. What got me to pre-order was that I can blow up cover (I truly hate campers in MW).

When you purchase the game, I'm sure you'll see that it varies vary differently from Modern Warfare, I have no doubt about that.

P.S. Modders do come up with pretty awesome things :) And yes, they can't polish them nearly as good as developers can because of their large buckets of cash, but successful modders always get the attention of big developers (Valve purchased TF/DoD right? :P, and a little unrelated: they purchased the TF2 Announcers look)

Edit: I probably should have mentioned: Unlike the MW hype, most people hyped about this game have PLAYED it, rather than just seeing videos or Press Releases. :)

Did you seriously just compare Battlefield to INS? Trust me bro, even after this Beta3 comes out for INS its not gonna change gameplay.

I just read the Beta3 "Patchnotes" for INS. Tell me whats so revolutionary. It looks like the changelog for any other game.

Ive been playing Fps games for 6 or 7 years now and i do have to admit that BC2 is by far one of the best

My list

1.CSS
2.Cod4
3.BC2
and thats just the beta so i know it might inch its way up past cod4 maybe past css but i not sure about that css is old and still the most played fps game on the market!

terrible list makes kitty cry!

I seriously cannot wait until the full game is released. I hope the single player will be very good! :P

just pre-ordered today, and the beta is really awesome. I cant wait for the final!

lol CSS and CS in general are good in so many ways. Gameplay is smooth and everyone moves in like a 1:1 ratio, also minimal lag, there are flaws of course. Still, CS has become a game that i never really grow out of or get bored of, its a game that i can always come back to and have fun no matter what pretty much.

MW2 is just so boring now, its so repetitive also, the only fun thing is either running around the map knifing everyone or using the shield.

Bad company 2 is still a big buggy but its to be expected in its beta form. The game is gonna be awesome though and the beta even with its many problems is still great to play. 90-100+ FPS max settings FTW.....looks great

No, I merely used insurgency as an example. Like I said they are changing their plans for beta 3. So those patchnotes are dated. They are currently discussing new changes openly with the community which will compete with newer gaming concepts.

When we chatted with an INS Dev, he said they are trying to implement tanks and helicopters, so in a way it would be somewhat similar to BF2.

So your argument is that BC2 looks like a generic FPS and games like INS change the genre with pipedreams?

Alright.

Does anybody know if we are gonna be able to keep our current ranks and gun unlocks when the full version of the game comes out?

ThatGuy, no you wont keep it. The only thing you'll get to keep is the name you registered.

For everyone else whos arguing, this thread is not meant to be a pissing contest about which is the better game, do that privately or discuss it rationally and maturely in another thread.

We had some great games last night. I hate it when people drive the tanks and have no clue on how to use them.

Anyone know the Battlefield Veteran score you need for the M1 Garand? Right now I have a veteran rank of 3.
