Alright so yesterday i got my i7 920, EVGA 3x SLI, NH-D14, and OCZ 6gb DDR3 1600.

I put it all together and what do you know, the NH-D14 barely fits on the mobo even when Noctua's website states it. The NH-D14 is hitting up against the left heatsink and pushing it pretty much, i had to like force it in.

My temps are also very weird. My lowest core is fine but the differences between the 4 cores is a lot. I have 1 core idling at 25, another at 29, another at 33, and the last one at 36. Should i be worried??? they also load at like 45,48,50,53. Is this due to the fact that the surface contact isn't even??? would it be worth it to re-seat the cooler??? because i feel that the pressure mounting should do the job at keeping it level. Maybe its just my CPU?? i know lapping makes all 4 cores like even temps but thats a lot of hassle.

Anyways, its running fine so far but i just want your opinions on if i should re-seat it or anything or your advice on this problem. THANKS!!

Edit:
PICS!!! sorry if they're lame, i already put like all the parts in the computer. I can apparantly only upload like 5, i have 7 lol.

View attachment 2799 Notice how close they are, they are actually touching and the Noctua is pushing it to the left. I have to give it to EVGA though, that heatsink is super sturdy, doesn't feel like it would break off or anything when pushing it/trying to bend it.

Pics.

You probably should reseat the heatsink. Having a difference of 11 degrees across cores is not normal, maybe up to 6 degrees is. Probably bad thermal paste application.

okay.........if i clean it, i don't have isopropyl but i do have ehtyl rubbing alcohol. Is ethyl rubbing alcohol fine??

I will get pics up as soon as i can.

Not exactly sure but I think you shouldn't be alarmed.

Notice how all 4 core temps are different.

K well i re-seated it and its about the same.......its probably the CPU.

Ill see how it does when i Overclock it. I spread out the thermal paste this time too with a rubber glove, nice and smooth.

Also, my i7 920 run turbo mode 24/7 lol........i just looked and its always 21 multiplier giving me 2.8ghz instead of stock 20 multiplier and 2.66ghz even when there are no apps running its the same.

Edit:
Just ran Prime95 for a bit and it seems my load temps are a bit better......about 2-4 degrees better. =)

What is the recommended temp range you guys think i should have??? no more than 75 load 100% 24/7 when overclocked???

The i7's can take a beating, around 65 full load is about as high as I would be comfortable with.

People are recommending to just keep it less tahn from 20TJ max.........thats about 80C so i have some headroom i think. Ill probably only go into 70's max anyway.

TIME TO OVERCLOCK WOOT!!! i will get pics up also when i can, they might be kinda blurry and hard to see cause they were taken from my iPhone 3G.

Okay pics are up........i am in the middle of overclocking now also. I am capable of getting over 4.0ghz easily. Will let you know my final overclock later on.

And yea, i suck at cable management, it would be better if the 12v 8 pin cable was longer, it was too short so i couldn't route that one. I somewhat tucked it away now though and airflow throughout the case should be good/unaffected.

I didn't put a 3rd fan on the NH-D14 even though i wanted to. I have no way of mounting it without more clips and i forgot to take the rubber mounts from my old one before selling it to my friend. GRRR. Oh well, temps are good so far. Will post everything later.

Well my CPU doesn't seem to want to go past 4.2ghz no matter what i do. I guess i did somewhat get a bad batch while also not being terrible.

Im using 200 BCLK and 21x multiplier. Prime95 also seems to be a problem. No matter what i do, one of the workers seems to stop.

What other stability programs are out there that i should use?? I also have OCCT but i don't think it stresses the CPU enough, doesn't use all 8 threads i think.

Second IBT. That will really put a beating on the CPU, GOOD STUFF ! ! !

That D14 looks even nuttier once shes mounted. i want it. Sweet looking build btw Pew, How are your voltages looking?

Idk, this CPU is super funky somewhat......im at like 1.38 vcore right now and it runs OCCT all fine until the end, the computer just restarts. When i was running it with less voltage it didn't even restart, it would tell me that i had an error on one of the cores.

Im gonna try IBT.

Im also having trouble figuring out how to remove the screws for the side panel fan on the HAF 932.........it looks like an allen key would do it but i don't seem to have the right size. Idk its like a hexagon or pentagon. I want to use pliers and just turn the thing but its hard doing that also. Grrr so many annoying problems. Apprantly it is an allen key that i need but i dont have a whole set with all the sizes, someone stole them aowhoaihwoeiaw

1.35 according to intel. But 1.375-1.4 should be fine if you have good cooling(which you do) and don't want to processor to work for more than 3 years of 24/7 100% load.

alright, apparantly this guide says to raise QPI PLL voltage to make Prime95 to stop getting errors. I'll play around more, been messing around for like hours now lol.

I raised like every voltage option a tiny bit.....running DIMM at 1.7v (is this fine??) and it seems to be a ton more stable than before

Ok yay finally stable at 4.2ghz 21x multiplier.

Vcore like 1.37
VDimm - 1.7
QPI PLL - 1.4
CPU PLL - 1.9
IOH Vcore - 1.4
CPU VTT - 1.45
IOH/ICHI/O - 1.625
IOH Vcore - 1.25

Max temperature on Prime95 is 71C on my highest core and 62C on my lowest core........yea the difference is pretty big between the two but its fine i guess.

Seems errors in Prime95 are related to my RAM, raising RAM voltages helps more than the others. IS going into the VDIMM 1.7's fine??

I wouldn't want to run it at 1.7. 1.65 is a pretty hard limit and upping that voltage can really shorten the life of your processor. I'd lower your DRAM ratio a little bit and set the voltage back to 1.65.

What frequency is your RAM rated to run at and what is it currently running at?

It's rated to run 1600.........and i have it at 1600 2:8 divider.

Maybe ill try it again lowering the VDIMM and seeing if it will past Prime95.

These are my settings, changed.

Vcore - ~1.39
VDIMM - 1.65
QPI PLL - 1.4
CPU PLL - 1.925
IOH Vcore - 1.425
CPU VTT - 1.475
IOH/ICH - 1.65
ICH Vcore - 1.275

In the meantime, can you let me know if theres anything wrong with these voltages. Like if CPU PLL is too high or something like that.

Will get back to let you know if Prime 95 is stable with these new settings.

Nope.......workers stopped in like 10 seconds when i lowered VDIMM.

I guess ill lower the divider and see if that helps. Shame that im gonna lose the 1600 on ram.

how loud is this?

all those high cfm cooler master fans must make alot of noise
