My build finished!!

Nope.......workers stopped in like 10 seconds when i lowered VDIMM.

I guess ill lower the divider and see if that helps. Shame that im gonna lose the 1600 on ram.

Everything else looks fine to me. How many sticks of RAM are you running? In your pic it looks like 6...Running 6 DIMM's at 1600+ is quite problematic.

Try loosening up the timings to 9-9-9-27. Also make sure it is running at 2T/2N not 1T/1N.

How do i make sure its 2T/2N?? I just used XMP profile, its probably in the bios somewhere near the timings ill find it.

Heres a quote i found off the web.

"Vdimm >1.65v is safe as long as vdimm is within 0.5v of uncore voltage"

Okay....... i scoured the web for info and even though many say running over 1.65v Vdimm is dangerous. Its not. As long as the uncore or VTT is .5v from the Vdimm or less then you will be safe. Atleast 1.725 isn't a whole lot from 1.65 and my cooling is adequate enough to keep it safe.

Supposedly even Intel reps have said its fine and on a graph they had, it said the max should be 1.875v for VDIMM.

Don't forget that it not only effects the CPU, but also the RAM and QPI bus.

I tend to play it safe when it comes to RAM, as you won't notice much difference between high frequencies and lower timings in anything except like Winrar. The only thing I want to push to the limit is the CPU. Also, running RAM at lower frequencies can allow your CPU to overclock higher.

Okay.......i guess ill lower voltages to 1.65 and lower the divider and up the BCLK to see if i get any faster CPU speed.

Of course running 4.2Ghz and 1600Mhz RAM is quite the overclock. It's of course up to you to do what you want to do and run it how you want. Just my advice, personal experience, and opinions that are above.

I lowered my divider to 2:6 so ram runs at 1200mhz................it's even more unstable and every single thread/core failed in 2 secs on Prime 95 lol............i wonder what happens if i do 2:10, imagine the higher frequency made it more stable xD

Wow i can't even boot into windows now with overclocks after trying 2:10 divider.......everytime i try to overclock i go into a black screen

Arggg since this Overclock doesn't want to function and im about dead beat from trying to.

Im gonna leave the VDIMM at 1.725 because it is within .5v from my VTT of 1.425v and its getting Prim95 stable easily, any other little tweak fudges it up and my max load temp is 72C on the highest core and 62C on the lowest core. 67C for the other 2 cores.

I've done the research online and ppl have been running for months with VDIMM of 2.0v which is plain ridiculous and i wouldn't even do it. Im pretty sure its safe with just a small increase to 1.725 from 1.65, its really not much but it makes all the difference in my overclock. I guess we'll see how it works out in the long run.

Heres the thing by intel

The 13th post has the diagram/picture. VDIMM can max at 1.875v and intel reps say to stay within .5v of your uncore voltage or VTT basically.

Lets pray this thing survives :)

this

i just this'd myself

haha.....nothing unbearable, its actually not that loud. No whining noises atleast found with cheap fans spinning at ridiculous RPMS.

Im waiting to put on another 4 Cooler Master RED LED fans on the side panel. I need an allen key though that fits the screw to remove the current 230mm fan. Its delaying my process ughhh, gonna ask my dad to go to sears or something and pick up a set. Someone stole ours apparantly.

Insane airflow>noise

Yea thats y i wanna put in the extra 4 side panel fans.....need more AIR!!!!

As for my overclock.....have it stable at 4.2ghz with 1.725v on the ram and 1.45v on the VTT so im within the .5v range and safety.

On Prime 95 i dont get load temps past 72C on the hottest core and 65C on the coolest one.

All in all im set to run this baby 24/7 now and no more fidgeting around with bios options etc.....

Time to run 3dMark06 and post my scores on here :) too bad my 4850 is holding me back now............till next time 5970 hopefully as my GPU upgrade.

ya so you're liking those CM fans huh??
they do have a nice hum to them if you get enough of them together, reflex, but it isn't that noisey.

and thats a pretty sweet OC...pretty high voltage but wow temps are really nothing, that cooler really must be boss. good work

Yup......the voltages are a bit high, i kinda knew going into this that i didn't get a super batch after reading about it on the web. But im satisfied its doing 4.2ghz Prime 95 stable. Only problem was that i had to up the voltages on VDIMM a tiny bit but i was told its safe as long as its .5v from the VTT which it is.

I just installed 4 more CM fans onto the side panel instead of the 230mm. I dropped my CPU temps like ~2-5C and my VREG/VRM dropped like ~8-10C.

I daisy chained the 4 fans plus a DVD drive. There should be no problem doing this right and the fans will not spin slower is i daisy chain them will they??

Im also running a 1000w PSU so it should be safe :)

Just wondering is daisy chaining the fans hinder their performance.

that cpu cooler is insane LOL. I plan on getting the Cooler Master V8 and 6GB more of ram to finish off my build and then wait a few years to plan my next big upgrade.

have you reseated your heatsink? how did you apply thermal paste and what kind did you use? if you have good stuff(I reccomend arctic silver 5) 2 thin strips placed to divide the cpu in thirds should be enough to cover it.

Yea i've reseated and all......temps are fine, im not gonna bother with it anymore. I at first did 2 strips, then i decided to just perfect it and smooth it out till i had a thin layer over the whole thing. I dropped my temps like 2C doing this. Its mainly my CPU though, i have an uneven heatspreader on the CPU giving me the uneven temperatures across the 4 cores.

Im done fidgeting with the overclocks etc lol. 4.2ghz stable, with a minor voltage clock on the VDIMM. Lets see how it plays out. Hopefully this thing doesn't just die on me any time soon. My temps are well within safe zones. Nothing above 70c on Prime 95 and nothing about 56C on heavy gaming sessions.

My next big upgrade is going to be GPU. Then im done spending money (probably not but i'd like to think so) and i can go use it on other stuff lol. All i need is like a 5970 or better and im set for a long time at my resolution which is nothing spectacular. I just wanna play every game buttery smooth maxxed out.
