[poll] Microsoft Windows Vista: crap or not (Check all that apply to you)

I am gong to sit here and allow Frid and like wise anyone else who has something to say about windows vista to speak up now and start the debate. I ask that everyone be respectfull and only post if contributing. So do not post with anything shorter than about this. ^

The reason for this: I am sick of the vista bashing followed by the vista ftw roflcopters. We are busting this issue wide open and I am allowing everyone else to go first. If it helps breaks the ice Frid has said in the last week or so that Vista = bad for games, and that the reason to stay away from it is because it has tech support in india. Do you have comments to these statements?

I have Had vista for about 7-8 Months, and I seem to enjoy it, but I hate how people don't like it because a few things don't work, That happens with all operating systems. In a few years, I am confident that Vista will beat xp. Although myself I have had a few issues with things, and I'm not going to get into them, but I found ways around them, and I love the Windows Aero Theme.
 
I switched to Vista from XP because my XP was quite literally crashing on me every day. I first thought it was probably a hardware issue, but figured installing Vista would be easier/cheaper than actually buying new hardware. Plus I'm lazy.

And presto... my crashing issue was resolved with the installation of Vista. No problems whatosever. I initially hit a snag with my video card drivers, but once I downloaded the newest set from Nvidia, I've been rock solid.

That said, I don't think it carries enough incredible features to warrant an upgrade for someone happy with XP. But I'm satisfied.
 
Basically I think XP runs great. Never had a problem on ly1 major crash that what was do to a massive power surge and a faulty surge protector.
There is no doubt that XP is faster and with SP 3 tomming out it will be even faster, also there are really no games that take advantage of DX10 yet, and before you say Crysis there is a simple hack that makes DX9 look just as good as DX10

im indifferent about vista because of my own reasons relating to money, my cd drive being broken, and im just too damn lazy.
BUT, personally id rather keep XP and drop the bucks on those bose phones i got then get vista. so its not close to my top priorities
 
I've been using vista for a couple months now, and it seems great to me. Ya it may not be compatable with all the games out there, but 95% of the compabatabilty issues can be fixed by running it with adminstrator privlages, and using service pack 3. I was worried at first because of all the 'RUMORS' of how vista sucked... frid dont want to bash you man but thats what I think your going on. Vista has great capabilties with photos, and gaming with the right rig. I have a 1.6Mhz processor with a Nvidia 7300Gt videocard and im running DoD:S on high except for color correction and have HDR on bloom. Vista is a good os, if your willing to accept the fact that its new. Ya its going to have problems its been out for what a year and a half now maybe 2. Xp has been out for a long time. Just my thoughts
 
I have been using Vista since the first release candidate and as with all new OS releases, there are issues. The only problem I currently have with Vista on my home computer is a print driver (HP) and I can hardly fault MS for an HP driver problem. I liked XP and I like Vista. Like someone said earlier, when XP initially was released, there were issues with that OS.

I work in the IT field and on of the biggest problems I see with Vista is the fact that Vista absolutely requires a lot of RAM. There is no way around this. If you are using an older computer or one with onboard video and maxed out with 2 gigs of RAM, you may experience difficulties running Vista. My recommendation would be to keep XP on your older computers and if you are buying a new computer, get Vista and get it with 4 gigs of RAM.
 
I have used it for around 6 or so months. I love it. It takes awhile to getting used to, but everything new does. It is not Microsoft's fault other companies don't bring out patches and updates to fix their products on Vista. I personally love it. Yes it is hardware heavy in some instances but come on, it's DX10 what do you expect!
 
I've been looking forward to getting Vista for a couple of months now. I just haven't had any extra cash to spend after all my bills are payed. I will probably spend some of my christmas bonus this year and go get myself vista. In the mean time I'll keep using XP, which is still a great OS in my opinion. Hey Kathless you mentioned something about SP3 for XP, when does that come out?
 
I have problems with tech support with EVERYTHING its just bad because on Vista I had to call TECHSUPPORT alot. I dont know if it is me i just cant understand em
 
I am still waiting to make a real responce but untill then - Frid,... how can a reaosn to keep XP over Vista be because Vista's tech support is in India - when XP's tech support is in,..... INDIA.

What bothers me about this is that you are using ilogical and unrelated things to prove a point aginst vista and havnt shown even a single logical reason.
 
Because i have little to know problems with XP. With Vista i have MANY and i have to call Tech Support Alot
 
I also get no where with Eithers Tech Support but i dont have many problems with XP
 
Once again, they have the exact same people answering the phone to help you with both so that is NOT a reason to disliek Vista. Your reason shoudl be 'because Vista gives me problems"

Please list and or explain these problems and when they occured.
 
Lol i've never had to call tech support in the 3 monthes i've been using it. It's all really straight forward, if you know what your doing. Now if you buy a game and try to install it and it doesnt work, you should have invested some time into looking at the specs that are on the back of every box. Other than gaming there isn't a sigle thing that can be complained about vista besides the resources it requires.
 
Well first off Me Red Orchestra wouldnt run because my card was not "ok" so some crap with vista. I went back in forth with them for about 2 weeks and got new drivers and crap before it started working. Second a game called "Aces High" for some reason. So i called and tried to figure out the problem and they told me if i wanted the graphics to stop bugging i was going to have to purchase a new card. That was the last time i called of Windows™ support because i went back to XP. You dont understand what i mean. I cant understand them Any of the time. But with xp there is no reason to call so therefor problem solved!
 
That reminds me of a story:

One day, lets say it was last year, john smith went to buy himself a brand new BMW. He went to the store (or dealership) and picked up a z-4 in all black. He drove it home and was happy. The next day, he went to drive his car and discovered that his IPod doesnt work. Now, even though the ipod has NOTHING to do with BMW's and BMw doesnt make his ipod, john smith called BM's roadside assitance hotline and talked for several hours trying to get them to fix the problem. BM told him that maybe he would have to buy a new ipod but didnt really knwo since it was outside of their area. Now, john smith will never buy BMw's again.

Your story makes a smuch sence as this one Frid. If you want to be mad at someone, be mad as ATI or nVidia (whoever you use) because for the first month of release they did not release working drivers for windows vista. This is in no way Microsofts fault - and also happened when XP was launched (if you remember). Nvidia had beta drivers, even after they got them to work they were still beta, for a LONG logn time. This is also not microsofts fault OR VISTA's.

I remember the message you are reffering to, we all have had it - but the silly ting is, if you only waited a week (what ever week in march), got the second release of beta drivers then you could have clicked "play anyway" and wow it would have worked.

But hey, thats ok, everytime firefox "does not respond" I call up my landlord and ask why firefox doesnt work in this appartment. You cant blame Vista for nVidia not having good drivers for their cards. Blame nVidia.

Also, after month one, 99% of those hardware problems are gone and dare I say, that percentage wise, hardware that works in XP has a significantly better chance to work in vista, then you ever had at trying to convert from 98 to XP. By a crapton i suspect. When XP was released in 2001 it seemed like 25% of hardware didnt work, and out of that 25% i bet most of them to this day dont work in XP.
