PS3 or Xbox 360. YOU DECIDE!

ps3 for me. Well its my media center with pretty good blue ray player so <3

EA did the PS3 port, Valve wouldn't do it. That's why it hasn't had any updates, not even bug fixes....Heck I believe the Demoman still has 6 pipebombs in his clip.

EA badly ported it. Its a miracle it even stands still. But its nice for people who cant run that stuff on their PC

I stay neutral, I always have. I don't like picking sides and I give every console a chance as long as it has at least 5 or more games I want. Regardless, there are pros and cons to each system. I will list them, but I am not going to say "Ps3 is way better" or "360 is way better," honestly I think you should only decide based on which one has the most games you want and naturally your personal preference in what games you want to play isn't known to us.

My biggest con on the PS3 that I will elaborate on is mostly the lack of any user friendliness. For example, if you are using HDMI and decide to go to a friends house or move it to a different TV that uses composite, it doesn't autodetect and you MUST give the system a factory reset to get them to work. When setting up things like the internet, sound, etc. etc. they have a million options that aren't usually things non-hardware experts would understand. This is the only thing I'm going to elaborate on, but otherwise I'll just keep the list concise.

Here's my list. Pros are "+" cons are "-"

PS3

+Better graphics on Exclusive Titles
+Can buy movies instead of just rent
+Plays BluRay
+No "points," downloadables ask for regular dollars
+Great DVD functionality
+Online multiplayer is free
-Worse graphics and stability issues with multiplatform titles
-Loading times are longer on most games
-Extremely user-unfriendly setup
-Constant. Firmware. Upgrades.
-PSN not as featured as XBL
-Most games have large installs, hard disk space is much easier to lose
360

+Better stability and graphics on most multiplatform consoles
+Xbox live more fully featured than PSN
+Larger library of downloadble games.
+Much more user friendly setup
+With a big harddrive, can hold much more content than PS3
-Not as many great exclusives as PS3
-"Points" aren't scaled to dollars and are annoying and expensive
-You can only rent movies
-Sound system doesn't seem as good
-Hardware issues are very rare, but when they do happen... they are big.

I press and hold my power button once it's on with the blank screen and it switches AV. There's been lots of time my friends accidentally left their Xbox360s set on HDMI and needed to hook it up to composite and I remember them having a Hell of a time trying to do it.

PS3

-Worse graphics and stability issues with multiplatform titles
That's the developer's fault. But as a customer it's a good thing to know.

-Extremely user-unfriendly setup
I didn't find it any harder than an Xbox, but I'm tech friendly.

-Constant. Firmware. Upgrades.
I'd rather have one that updated frequently than infrequently.

-Most games have large installs, hard disk space is much easier to lose
Gah, I know. MGS's install was really long! But you can upgrade the harddrive to 500gb if you want to. And a tech-unfriendly person is able to do that. It's in the user manual and easily Google'd.

360

+Better stability and graphics on most multiplatform consoles
Again, developer. But it is a lot easier to make a game for the Xbox.

+Larger library of downloadble games.
And if you're so inclined, you can make your own games too, at a cost.

+With a big harddrive, can hold much more content than PS3
I haven't tried to fill an Xbox HD before in comparison to a Playstation, but and upgraded harddrive for a PS3 helps.

-Not as many great exclusives as PS3
Not in the begining anyway. If a customer wants to buy a console now, 2009 was a great year for Playstation exclusives, and it's getting better.

-Hardware issues are very rare, but when they do happen... they are big.
I'm pretty sure the word "rare" is a wrong word to use.

Please don't get angry, I'm not trying to argue, I think debate is healthy!
:)

oh jeeze, this is going to be such a long thread with a lot of points, anyway. If this was a poll I wouldnt vote, fot the reason that there is no "better console".

The Xbox has its optimal live experience which does cost money but for the stability and little lag and constant updates you get, its definetly worth the $60 a year.

The PS3 has good online play which doesnt cost money therefore is not updated as frequently and maintained as well which causes more lag than the 360. But the PS3 does have better graphics with its blu-ray player because the games are blu-ray. And the PS3 is slowly gaining more exclusive titles than the 360 with the just released new Final Fantasy.

I could go on for hours about this subject as i had a 360 for 4 years and and ps3 for almost a year now but to sum up everything id have to say, there is no better console.
It all depends what you plan to do with the console, If you plan to watch movies and maybe want to play some games along the way, go with the ps3. If you want to be 100% online gaming and not so much focused on the lifelike graphics or original titles, go with the 360.

Thats all from me, dont want to say to much.

P.S: If you want to get a mix of both, get a good computer and you can get the best of both worlds(Hannah montana lol) as long as you realize a good computer nowadays that could run PS3 graphics smoothly, would be one hell of an expensive computer.

i personally like 360 more i used to be a halo fan so yeah =/ I'm 90% pc gamer like 10% console and console % dies a little every year. Also i mostly prefer it more to ps3 because when ps3 released (i loved ps2 and looked very forward to ps3) i felt lied and cheated it was horrible at release and until recently i dunno how anyone could see it as a possible gaming platform unless u were just a big MGS fan. not to mention my knowledge of computers once i learned what was inside both consoles the ps3 technically is inferior it has a better graphics card than the 360 but the 360 has far more ram and my personal test of GTA4 load times on 360 destroy ps3 load times (even after being downloaded) and when lots of action happens at a time 360 there minor graphic glitches while it catches up that do not effect gameplay ps3 FREEZES COMPLETELY until the system catches up

it comes down to a function of the exclusive games (ex. Halo 3 on Xbox or God of War 3 on PS3) and i have both I play my 360 all the time and BARELY touch my PS3 unless a game like MGS 4 GoW 3 or Uncharted 2 is released but its all on exclusives and personally the xbox live fee is a low number considering the quality of service vs PS3 but they are both amazing systems

as ps3 doesn't have better graphics because of blu ray, blu ray doesn't effect graphics at all its actually apart of the bottle neck that slows down the load times for games if sony was smart they would have installed a blu ray player that was DVD backwards compatible and have there games in DVD format like everyone else and just have it able to play blu ray as movies. Also ps3 does have a better graphics card that is why it is (slightly) better graphically but has far less ram than a 360 that's why game play is generally smoother on a 360 though in comparison most games that are cross platform the difference in graphic quality usually not even noticeable and in some cases it depends on the TYPE of rendering for the specific game. for example Oblivion for 360 has far better water rendering and reflection effects than ps3 but the ps3 had noticeably better shadowing effects and dynamic lighting

All you have to do when going from HDMI to Composite is hold the Power button for about 5 seconds after turning it on and it will auto detect. Took me less than 5 minutes to set up online on my PS3 where as the 360 took longer.

+No "points," downloadables ask for regular dollars

This makes it easier to figure out how much you need to pay instead of guessing.
-Worse graphics and stability issues with multiplatform titles

I have GTA4 on both 360 and PS3 and both look the same. And have never had issues with any games.
-Loading times are longer on most games

PS3 has a cache system. Meaning the more you play a game the faster it loads. ie. Fallout 3, If you delete the cache data it will load slower. I did this once. And once the cache gets built up the load time is faster.
-Extremely user-unfriendly setup
Elaborate on what yo mean here.
-Constant. Firmware. Upgrades.

Firmware Updates are not that often. But when they are released it fixes multiple problems at once. Better to have firmware updates than not.
-Most games have large installs, hard disk space is much easier to lose
This goes back to the cache system. It helps the game to load faster and most installs dont take that long. This is just time that i spend getting a drink or doing some other quick task while the Ps3 installs. Plus you can buy a big hard drive to compensate. I had a friend who had 2 terabytes in his.

+Better stability and graphics on most multiplatform consoles
I have experienced nothing different from the 360 than i do my PS3
+Much more user friendly setup
The 360 took longer to get online than my ps3 did.
+With a big harddrive, can hold much more content than PS3
There is a limit, you can only get a hard drive as big as microsoft can make. Ps3 however you can upgrade yourself.
-Hardware issues are very rare, but when they do happen... they are big.

Millions of People getting the RROD on their 360 isnt rare. Thats poor manufacturing on Microsofts part.

In the end I play and use my PS3 way more. Mainly because the 360 has nothing that i want to play and if there is something its multiplatform so i play it on my PS3. Just depends on personal preference and what the system will be used for.

360 good for online gaming for consoles.
PS3 good all around entertainment.

I personally like both of them, but each one has its pro's and its con's with me.

XBox 360
Pros: much more space is provided giving a lot more gaming memory + more shooter type games (IMO).
Cons: dealt with many issues at the beginning when it was realeased; constantly recieved the "ring of death."

PS3
Pros: the size of the PS3 was something that I enjoyed very much because I was able to store it in a small place that didn't take too much room; when playing or when stored.
Cons: did not enjoy the controllers that were provided with the system. they seemed to be more fragile and break easier than the 360 controllers.

However, I have collected all the systems so far since the Super Nintendo and can say that the PS3 and the 360 both by far are my favorites to play with :)

Ahh this question is easily answered by what you want to do with it. If online gameplay is what you seek, go for 360. I find teh ps3 internet, although it's free, isn't that great. Then again if you want to play single player games go for ps3 as it has much better graphics and a blue ray player. For me? I go for 360, can't play with my MLG Halo 3 team on ps3 can you =P

*Edit* If you want your hard drive bigger than what micro can make you must be doing something wrong because I have had my regular xbox since it came out and have nearly every game made saved to it and it's barely made a dent in the memory along with all my online content. I don't seee how you can max out your memory without saving a game to your hardrive in which case you can take it off because it doesn't do much for the gameing experience

Blu-ray doesn't matter.
BLU-RAY DOESN'T MATTER.
:facewall:
Let me explain why Blu-ray is better.
  • It's a giant disc. That means it can hold more texture data
  • It also means it can hold more everything data
  • I believe DVDs are compatible
  • FFXIII on the 360 is 3 discs. PS3? One disc.
  • Blu-ray discs are more advanced than DVDs
Not saying it is overall better, but the Blu-ray feature is definitely a plus.

lol don't worry im with you. Ill back you up.

Blu-ray is tons better so if your saying blu-ray doesn't matter, your just being ignorant.

- Blu-ray can hold up to 50gb currently though there have been tests on 100gb discs a long time ago, don't know when those will hit production.
- PS3 plays 1080P and Blu-ray discs are currently the only things capable of doing so....1080P is basically 1920x1080. Xbox 360 games support a max of 1280x720 which is 720P.
- If you notice the new Final Fantasy, it plays a lot smoother and looks more crisp on the PS3, it's also all on one blu-ray disc while on the Xbox 360 it's on 3 discs.
- Yes, blu-ray allows for better graphics due to the capacity etc..

Im not trying to bash the Xbox 360, i have one myself and play it more than my PS3. But blu-ray definitely matters. The reason i play Xbox 360 more is because my friends all have Xbox 360. Of course i would prefer PS3 if they had it but they don't so yea....xbox 360 is the way to go for me, playing with friends makes the experience all the better. Battlefield Bad Company 2 FTW!!

People get famous on Xbox360. That's the point im trying to get across. Look up zzirGrizz if you think my info isn't credible. Or look me up.

Don't forget that Blu-ray disc are very durable. I accidentally dropped a game of mine a while back right onto a dirty floor and there was no scratch whatsoever.

And the games survive surprise children attacks too!
