ubuntu and linux arent 2 different things. Ubuntu is a distribution of linux. Just letting you know ;)

Ubuntu is nice because it has a large, and rather helpful, community, lots of packages, and a lot of linux based stuff is designed for it.

And am I able to play bfbc2 and dod:s online with thatOS?
The simple answer is no...

Linux is not generally viewed as a gaming OS and hence not many games support it.

Linux has an app called WINE that functions as a Windows emulator and some games can be ran using that app... however as all emulators, it doesn't work as well as we'd like it to :O
Even though dods can be ran through WINE it has performance issues.
As far as BFBC2, I would put "trying to run BFBC2 on WINE" and "teaching a dog how to speak fluent chinese" around the same level of possibility :P

I use Ubuntu/Linux as my main OS and I like it ALOT, however I dual boot with WinXP because of gaming (and some other work related apps):P

If you want to game on linux, your going to have to install virtualbox or vmware, and run windows xp or something inside it. WINE hasnt developed enough :/

Thanks for the answer
To bad I can't run games on Linux:(
I shall have to try fixing my Internet on xp then:(

I have to agree with K^^ wholeheartedly. I use Ubuntu on almost all of my client machines and Debian for most of my server machines. That being said, my gaming machine runs Windows NT5. (That's XP for you non-nerds ;) .) The games are designed for it, it takes little knowledge to set up, and it's quite resource efficient. Why complain?

I have used different *nix distros (Linux Distributions) and WINE to play a game or two before and it can be done. However, you must know quite a bit about the game's coding and ALL of the resources that code will require. The ability to make a game function with WINE is considered a rite of passage in some circles and NOT to be attempted by anyone with a short temper! You will destroy your machine out of anger. Guaranteed. ;)

Now, let us take a look at some solutions!

If you're running a Windows release and your network isn't working AND your hardware was verified to work using Linux, then you simply have a driver issue! The only difference in Windows drivers and Linux drivers is the operating system side of the code. On the hardware side of the code, well, it's ones and zeros. That's all the little transistors can do inside your microchips, on and off, one or zero. ;) We can easily recode a driver to work on your machine and get Windows working for you again!

Other thoughts...

You may also be missing a driver for a bus or bridge-chip that your Network Interface Card is communicating through! Check your device manager to see if there are missing device drivers!

I hope this helps you! Let me know if you need anything else!

Very well written, smart solution too

Thank you Angel,

I checked my device manager and everything looks fine, no yellow explanation marks or something.

And about " We can easily recode a driver to work on your machine and get Windows working for you again! ". I really don't know how this works, but would be cool if this would work.
But I doubt if this will work becaus I'm using the same software for about a year now, andjust out of nothing it stops working. It might be a virus maby, I have a C drive which I made totally empty and installed xp on again, so that drive can't contain any virus. I also have a D drive with backup stuff, this one might contain a virus. You think making the C and D drive empty can solve the problem?

you need an emulator but its very slow. i think it was called wineq or something go check if wineq supports bc2. but lots of problems

EDIT: answers but now we are talking about my Internet-not-working problem.
Read my last post.

Rather than losing your data, I would suggest removing the cable from your 'D' drive to simulate wiping it.

Virus on a freshly formatted drive? I can count on one hand the amount of times that has happened to me and I have worked on a machine or two. I doubt that is your issue. Especially if you still have trouble after removing your 'D' drive.

More likely, Windows native drivers or Windows updates are causing your issue. I suggest downloading drivers from your motherboard or chipset manufacture and installing them over the Windows drivers. Windows update has a habit of installing faulty drivers if you're not careful to prevent it.

Less likely, if you're overclocking your Front Side Bus or your CPU multiplier you need to reset to factory defaults.

If you are still having trouble after this, then send me as much information about your computer as you can. I will need your motherboard type and revision or your machine manufacture and model number.

Thank you I'll try to do this but I exually ment a D thing on the same drive. Like another partition. So I've split my drive in 2. A C part and a D part.

And I can't find my motherboard drivers on the factury website.
I have the foxcon a690gm2ma-8krs2h.
Can you give me a link of what I have to download?
There are so many things to dowload for foxcon motherboard but I don't know which one I need.

Thanks for your help again, I hope I will solve this stupid problem once.

Ok thanks, I have 32-bit btw. Sorry for the late answer but I was eating.
And can I put that on a cd from another computer and then install it here?
And is that everything I need to get my Internet to work?
Or will I also need the software of my wireless card? I have the linksys wmp54g.
But already have it on cd, however I ain't sure if that's the newest version.

But do I need to install the programs you gave me first and then the linksys
driver?

Version 1, 2, 4, or 4.1?

Power-down and change the slot that your adapter is installed in. While you're in there, look on the side of the card for the revision number/version number.

Use the driver link below. I would suggest using the drivers above before installing the one below.

Driver

I hope you find this helpful!

Thanks Angellas, tomorrow I gone put this all on cd and try to fix my Internet:)
Thanks:)
