I know Brock might know, but does anyone know a good reliable website where I can get good reliable WWII Reenacting Gear? (Preferably German Gear)

And if it's fairly inexpensive it'll be much more excellent.

answer:

cardboard box with spraypaint. You can make the craziest stuff if you take the time.

haha well reenacting is a expensive hobby. I think i've spent about....3500$ so far on wool uniform, greatcoat, restored original m-42 helmet, webgear, swiss spade, bayonet, original 1944 marked k98, snow camo, jacboots, blank firing ppsh, etc. end result

Thor I advise you first to search for a reenacting unit around you. That is crucial. If you are like me you are impatient and just want to jump right into it but that is a mistake. You gotta find a good unit to fight with. I'd try to meet up with them before hand and make sure they aren't clowns. If you go to events solo you will get lumped into some random unit as a replacement and that sucks. Also I'd stay away from SS groups. They are usually clowns.

Here are some sites. I am trying to find the one good uniform site. they have them really cheap i'll get back to you when I find it. I ordered from all the follow except lost battalions.

so how do these enactments take place? what is fired? Sounds pretty interesting, but id never be able to afford it if brock paid 3500

tactical battles take place on private properties and usually there is a fee and a waiver you have to sign. We use real guns with blank ammunition or guns that just shoot blanks or gas operated guns. You don't shoot at people if they are like really close tho obviously. I spent that much on a lot of extra stuff but if you wanted to do a German you could probably only spend a few hundred and get the basic uniform.

So how do you know if your supposed to "die"?

My brother is on the Texas Tech paintball team and he said something about them going to a WW2 d-day reenactment, theres a couple thousand people at that he said, and with paintballs (for the most part) you know when you get shot =P

I think it needs pretty fair and honest acting from all the participants as the name "reenactment" already says.. ^^
It's not a competitive sport like paintball but more of a mature form of playing Cowboy and Indians imo.. with trying to act as close to reality as possible.
I really don't know anything about reenactment as it is quite unusual here in germany (especially the ww2 ones.. you won't find 'em here. guess why.. lol) but I can image there is a masterplan and a set story worked out before the battle starts like in Live rpg's or such...

So you just run around and not shoot anyone ? i am confused..

No you shoot at people all the time you just don't shoot at people if they are in like 10 feet in front of you because you could injure them or deafen them. blanks are loud especially when lots of guys are firing or say my ppsh41 which shoots 5 rounds a second.

Basically there are 3 kinds of reenacting events.

Tacticals are private battles not open to the public and are unscripted with objectives. Sometimes there are judges walking around and they award you points for holding objectives like a cross road or a farm, village etc. You die when you see someone shoot you basically. it's an honor system and some time people take their hits and die and sometime they don't, the ones that don't get a bad rep in the reeancting community and won't get invited to events. when you die you take your helmet or hat off and wait until the battles passes over you or if it is a static fire fight you walk back about 30-50 yards and wait 5-10 minutes then respawn and head back to the battle.

Public Battles are battles for the public to watch which have scripted events and always end in the Germans losing (big surprise) I have a public battle this weekend on the delaware river at a old rev war fort.

Displays are pretty much setting up a field camp and having the public look at all your gear and ask you questions. Displays are kinda boring but it's cool because a lot of WWII vets come and they get really excited and tell you their war stories. Also you get to school the ignorant public who think every German soldier was a Nazi which they weren't

The best thing you'll get out of reeancting is the respect for the men who fought in the real war and experience a fraction of what they went through. Putting on all that gear and seeing how hard it is to run around in it. You do it for a weekend and you want to die. your ankles have 2-3 blisters from the jackboots and your knees get all chaffed from the wool uniform rubbing together. Your shoulders kill from the y-straps pushing down on your body from all the weight of your ammo and gear. You bake in the oppressive heat of the summer and freeze in the coldness of the winter. These men did it for years and they were hardcore. It pisses me off so much when I see people playing DoD complaining how slow the guys move and how you can only run for a few seconds. They have no idea how hard and uncomfortable it is running with all that gear poking and weighing you down. A lot of the times it's not even fun and you are standing there thinking why the hell am I doing this and then you remember that your forefathers were forced to do this for years and you feel like crap when you can barely do it for a weekend. That is reeancting
