I still hate the iPod. What kind of music player doesn't support Flac and Ogg formats? My Sansa Clip+ 8gb supports them, and it only cost $65. Plus, I can shove in a 32gb microSDHC card in there for even MORE storage.

Also:

I don't mind the lack of Flash. If you use OSX then you would know Flash is useless...

So, here's one of the business applications that I've seen for the iPad that definitely makes it more than a big iTouch.

Apparently there's some mandatory change in the medical industry that's going to require doctor's offices to move to a completely paperless system for medical records. The leading program that supports this transition and completely paperless system works super well on the iPad. A urologist is planning on buying one for all of his...nurses?... that go around to each room and collect information from patients.

Also, after using pages and numbers on it, I definitely can see the function of something like this.

It'll all depend on what apps come out for this thing.

I'm definitely not an advocate for it and I think it's stupid the way they are releasing it, but the idea has a lot of potential. They need to make it a replacement for text books and notebooks, more of an educational piece of hardware rather than entertainment. My school actually has an iPod touch cart w/ like 20 of the things we use for taking tests sometimes. If they made it so it could hold a book and let you take notes with it, it would be really handy. Kinda like the thing in Ender's Game.

But yeah, basically it's not what it should be.

The iPad may not be the revolution, but it's at least an indication that it's coming. The "thing" in Ender's game is called a "desk."

Portable touch computing is coming, we just need it to be implemented well the first few times so that it doesn't just become a techy pariah.

Its a money making scheme is all it is. Apple is known worldwide enough to know they could release the iBrick(a big brick, nothing else) and make millions of dollars off of it and now they are just milking the fact that they have people that will buy anything no matter how ridiculous the concept is.

The iPad is a Giant ipod touch, at least the wifi version of it is.
the 3G version of it which is yet to be released will be slightly different than the Ipod in the fact that it uses 3G so you can use the internet anywhere.
In my opinion, the ipad is too big to put in your pocket so no one will leave their house with it so all it needs is wifi, but the iPod touch could definetly use the 3G feature as that would actually be beneficial and not pointless.

I dont understand the appeal of the Ipad. I understand the hype (apple fanboys of course) but not the appeal. Heck, most people dont even know that is cannot multitask (i.e. play music and surf web at the same time).

Now multitasking is the prime reason for having a mobile device in the first place. Now, I understand Ipad is not a mobile device, but it could be and it should be.

The only use I could see for an Ipad is watching movies on a plane. And if thats it, forget it. I will never buy an Ipad and will continue being intrigued by the amount of apple fanboys fooling themselves into buying such useless products.

I believe apple used to be a great, forward thinking company, but not any longer. Its just the same Ipod over and over.

true but they are also a company who has in the past been good to their fans (other than charging them ungodly amounts of money for their run-of-the-mill (at least in terms of hardware) computers).

My point being they have not churned out useless garbage such as this in their long history of being a successful company, so why start now?
