Article ITT I attempt to review every movie I've seen.

No problem, just try to review the two movies mentioned above if you've seen them, whenever possible of course :) another movie I thought of was 'Dante's Peak', but I've already suggested. So just get out a review when possible :cool:

I have not seen the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I know it's like the biggest cult film ever and that I'm damaging my film geek cred by admiring this. Though if it's any consolation, I really don't want to see Tim Curry in drag.

A Captain Canuck Review​

Title: Scarface
Year: 1983
Country of Origin: US
Director: Brian DePalma

Story: In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power. Then when you get the power, then you get the women.

Review: An updated remake of the 1932 film of the same name. This somewhat campy, violent and profanity laden film received mixed reviews by critics upon its release. However it has since become one of the most oft referenced films in popular culture and has gained a 'cult following'.

The performances are strong throughout the entire cast, however Al Pacino's portrayal of Tony Montana is without a doubt the standout performance of the film. DePalma does an overall good job with the direction of this film, though the pacing of the story is a little slow and muddled at times. This does little to lower the enjoyment of this film however as the script and performances are both top notch.

The Untouchables and the somewhat less appreciated Carlito's Way, are both examples of a sharper more mature directorial effort from DePalma. That said, this is a very good film with great performances, and is a must see for those that don't mind a lot of violence and profanity.

Title: Strange Days
Year: 1995

Director: Kathryn Bigelow

Story: On the eve of the new millennium, that being the year 2000; the death of a rapper, a serial killer, racial tensions, and pretty much everything seems to be bringing the city of L.A. to a boiling point.

Review: This is two-thirds of a good movie, or to put it another way the third act falls flat. Which sucks since the film starts out so well and is still probably one of the better cyber-punk film around. The Sci-fi plot device of this film is that in the futuristic year of 1999, they've devised a way to record a persons senses onto what looks to be a Minidisc. Another person can then experience exactly what that person what feeling, seeing, hearing, etc...during the recorded time. This makes for an interesting plot device and makes for one brilliant opening scene. The acting is decent, Ralph Fiennes does a pretty good job as a noirish hero. The direction is great, Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Point Break) does a great job with the material and manages to create a gritty and realistic world. The story is the biggest issue with this film, it seems like the writers didn't know how to settle all the plot lines in a cohesive manner. Still it's better than that other Cyber-punk film that came out in 1995 and while that doesn't mean much it's still a movie that's worth watch. Also interesting fun fact, the film was written and produced by James Cameron who was at one point married to Bigelow.

Director: Joe Johnston

Story: America's most patriotic superhero finally get a proper movie.

Review: There might be other directors who are capable of directing a good Captain America movie, but now that I've seen this adaptation I can't imagine anyone but Joe Johnson. For those of you who don't know Joe Johnson, he's the guy who directed The Rocketeer, and for those of you who have not seen The Rocketeer...well go out and rent The Rocketeer. I bring this up because thematically both films are similar and both capture an old school vibe. While the film captures the correct vibe, it's still not perfect. The plot takes backseat to action and interestingly enough the characters. That's right, characterization supersedes the plot...this might be the first time I've ever had that complaint. So of course now for the big question, is it any good? Yes, it's a fun lighthearted summer action film with a likable cast and some good action. Sure the plot is secondary and at times even non-existent, but that's easy to ignore.

Like I said in my thread, captain america appears to have had more action scenes, but they were edited out. I expect an extended cut for DVD release.

I've only read up to the fourth book and I've only seen up to the fourth film. I sort of lost interest in the series after reading The Goblet of Fire. I'll eventually watch/read the rest of the series.

They might have cut or condensed an action scene or two, but it was needed. The film had a perfect running time, any longer and it might have hurt the film.

For Captain America, it makes sense to not have a huge plot and to develop the characters.. They're setting it up for The Avengers, they just wanted to explain his origin and why he manages to come from 1945 to 2011. Its a shame they didn't have Nick Fury with the Howling Commandos, but even the way they did that without Nick was good.

I know, but I have to review the movie as if it were self-contained. There isn't a over-arching plot to the Avengers tale so far other than team building. So technically I can't call it a prequel...though it could almost be considered one since it looks like the MacGuffin of the upcoming Avengers movie is explained in this one. Still I have to call it what it is, Captain America is a fun summer action movie with a weak to non-existent story. Now if you want a prequel to the Avengers movie, then Thor is your film.

Yeah, I stay till the end...and so far Thor was the only movie that was worth it. I was pissed when I saw that it was a teaser trailer at the end of Captain America.

The movie is planned, but its contingent on how successful the Avengers movie will be.
