Article ITT I attempt to review every movie I've seen.

Muppets_ver4.jpg

Title: The Muppets
Year: 2011
Country of Origin: US
Director: James Bobin

Story: Years after the Muppets have broken up for some unknown reason, A devoted fan must bring them back together to save Muppet studios from being destroyed.

Review: There is not a single cynical line in this whole movie, which considering everything else I've been watching lately is pretty refreshing. It's nice to see the Muppets back in action, we haven't seen a theatrical release from them since the notorious 1999 bomb Muppets from Space. Better yet, this is exactly the type of reboot they needed, a perfect blend of sincerity, nostalgia, and self-referential meta-humor. The plot is perfectly framed to give most of the Muppets some screen time, though a lot were glossed over simply because there wasn't enough time. In fact that's the film biggest issue, there wasn't enough running time to finish the story. This seems a little odd considering the film has a running time of two hours, but you could tell that they did a lot of cutting for the sake of time...especially the ending. The ending got the worst of whatever editing happened, there is this one joke at the end that involves Jack Black that makes absolutely no sense and the only way I could explain it is that the build up to the joke was cut.

Still, it is hard to find fault in this film. I had a smile on my face the whole time and frankly that's pretty much all I could have asked for. So kudos to Jason Segel who is responsible for this reboot. If you haven't seen this one yet, you really should it is one of the funniest films of the year.

Manhunter (1986) vs Red Dragon(2002), same story and yet so different

Yeah, between Skyrim and my new found addiction for the Sons of Anarchy I haven't been reviewing much. I'll try to get a few up tomorrow.

Title: Mission: Impossible ? Ghost Protocol
Year: 2011
Country of Origin: US
Director: Brad Bird

Story: After a bombing at the Kremlin is blamed on Ethan Hunt, his team, and the IMF as a whole everyone gets disavowed...including the IMF. Now Ethan and his small team, without any back up or support, must stop a terrorist from ushering in a nuclear holocaust.

Review: Before this movie I would have said that the 1st Mission: Impossible was my favorite of the series, now I don't think I can say that. Brad Bird has managed to put together one of the most cohesive, well plotted, and entertaining action films to come out in years. The film's plot wont win any oscars, but it does well enough to keep the action going and send the action from Russia to Dubai to Mumbai.

The cast is likeable enough, Cruise does a fine job as Ethan Hunt again proving that this is his series. Jeremy Renner is pretty darn good as an analyst who gets stuck with Hunts team after the IMF get disavowed...but might be something more than what he appears. Pegg plays comedic relief and does a great job with it. Paula Patton is alright, she isn't particularly bad, but not all that memorable.

Overall this is a slick and entertaining film, filled with some excellent action set pieces. Most importantly though it remember to be fun, something that the previous iterations of the series had forgotten. It's humor is reminiscent Bird's previous films and it works in live action form quite well. Speaking of which this is Brad Bird's first live action film, his previous films include The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille, these film comprise some of my favorite Pixar films...and my favorite animated film to come out in the last 20 years. To say that Bird directs live action well would be an understatement, he does an amazing job for his first live action film. All in all your going to be hard pressed to find a better action film to watch this holiday season.

Mini Review/Preview

The Dark Knight Rises: Prologue

Summary: As you can see from the above review I saw Mission: Impossible at IMAX, which includes a 6 minute preview of the new batman film...which Google is informing me has leaked online almost making the Preview useless. Anyway the clip shows Bane messing with the CIA while in a plane...and that all you really need to know. So here is a break down of what worked and what didn't.

What Worked: Pretty much everything worked, the cinematography was amazing and the action scene that was shown was incredibly well done and exciting.

What Didn't: Bane...thats it. During the 6 minute clip Bane has several lines of dialog...70% of which I couldn't understand...nor could anyone else in the theater.

Conclusion: As long as the sound editing team can fix Bane, The Dark Knight Rises is shaping up to be one amazing film.

The_Core_poster.jpg

Title: The Core
Year: 2003
Country of Origin: US
Director: Jon Amiel

Story: When an experimental weapon inadvertently halts the rotation of the earth's core, a small team of scientists must go to the center of the earth to restart its core...with nukes.

Review: I like this movie, it knows that it's a B-grade disaster film and adjusts itself accordingly. The script is decent enough and manages to carry the film throughout its run time without much trouble. The characters are pretty much all likeable and the cast does a pretty good job in their roles. What makes this one worth watching over the myriad of disaster films out there is that its campy as hell and it knows its campy. The film doesn't take itself seriously and as such its a fun film just to sit back and watch. That being said, it's not a great film nor would I call it a good film...but it's fun and for some strange reason there are a lot of films out there that forget to be fun.

Oh...wow I suck at keeping this thing updated with content.

Tucker-and-dale-vs-evil.jpg

Title: Tucker & Dale vs Evil
Year: 2010
Country of Origin: Canada
Director: Eli Craig

Story: You know those B-Grade horror films where a group of college kids go out camping in the woods and are promptly slaughtered by a group of psychotic hillbillies? Yeah, this isn't one of this films.

Review: The thing about this movies is that I think it's a funnier film to watch when you know next to nothing about the film. Fortunately when I saw this film I knew pretty much nothing about this one. So for the sake of you're enjoyment of the film I'm going to skip a plot summary. All you need to know is that this is probably the best horror-comedy to come along since Slither. Tucker & Dale is funny violent, and strangely sincere about the way it does things. So give this film a shot, also it's the kind of film that good to watch with a group of friends.

Did you know that Skyrim sold more than 3.5 million copies after the first 48 hours of release!!

Slithermovieposter.jpg

Title: Slither
Year: 2006
Country of Origin: US
Director: James Gunn

Story: A meteorite carring a malicious alien falls in small town USA...violence and humor ensues.

Review: Of late there have been a wave of horror comedies that base their humor on camp. I've never been a fan of camp for the sake of camp in horror movies. Slither is a little campy, but it also has some great humor and dialog written into it...which really makes the film shine. The cast is great, especially Fillion who always seems to be one great movie away from being an A-list actor. The whole production is great and the film is well worth your time.

Soldier_%281998%29_poster.jpg

Title: Soldier
Year: 1998
Country of Origin: US
Director: Paul W. S. Anderson

Story: Mute super soldier gets replaced by a possibly superior soldier and is some how dumped on a trash planet...that has people living on it.

Review: So yeah, Kurt Russell isn't actually mute...but he has like three lines in a the whole film so he might as well be. I'm not a fan of this film, it takes a lot from Alien 3 and some from the Seven Samurai. For the most part the film isn't completely dreadful...it's just boring...really boring. Somehow this is pegged as spiritual sequel to Blade Runner, which I don't even begin to understand.

Films of 2012 I'm looking forward to:

Chronicle: Looks like Akira, but without being a remake...which is good

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance: Yeah, I know the first movie is pretty sucky, but this one is being done by the Crank guys...which is once again...good

John Carter: First live action film being directed by Pixar vet Andrew Stanton and After Bird's Mission Impossible 4...I'm all for the Pixar guys doing live action.

The Raid: Action movie of the year right here.

The Cabin in the Woods: This one has been a long time coming. A horror film written by geek guru Joss Whedon.

Lockout: Technically Escape From New York, but takes place in outer space. Given the material that I've so far, this looks pretty freakin awesome...also has Guy Pierce who is always great.

The Avengers: yeah

Prometheus: Ridley Scott returns to Sci-fi...god how the genre has needed him.

Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter: Cus, why not?

Brave: It almost looks like Pixar is trying to make up for Cars 2.

The Dark Knight Rises: I've seen the IMAX footage and as long as they fix Bane this should be great.

The Bourne Legacy: Lets see what Jeremy Renner can do...

The Wettest County: After The Proposition I'm willing to see any John Hillcoat movie.

Argo: Ben Affleck has proven himself a great director...so this one should be good.

Looper: This could be a crazy awesome sci-fi film...or it could suck, with Rian Johnson it can really go either way at this point.

Skyfall: Obvious choice

47 Ronin: Don't ask me why, but I'm looking forward to this.

Gravity: Alfonso Cuaron's first film since Children of Men.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey: Obvious choice

World War Z: I have high hopes for this one.

Django Unchained: Tarantino...so why not?

The Master: P.T. Anderson's first film since my favorite film of the last decade, There Will be Blood.

Ever consider seeing the movie rendetion of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy? I saw it think past weekend and found it quite hard to follow; but then again I haven't read the book.

I'm really looking forward to this in 2012. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eP0QJ_Ba1Bs[/ame]

Which brings me to a realization, I don't think you've reviewed any Wes Anderson films in this thread yet(unless I've missed it).

I've been meaning to see it. I heard from some people it was a little difficult to follow.

I'm not really a fan of Wes Anderson's work. I like The Life Aquatic and I love Rushmore, but beyond that I haven't really liked him all that much...though this one does look pretty funny. Still I need to get around to review his films.
