Title: Contagion

Director: Steven Soderbergh

Story: There is an outbreak of an unknown and highly contagious disease in Japan, China, and the United States. Can the CDC find a cure fast enough before the disease can decimate the globe?

Review: When Steven Soderbergh goes full on Soderbergh he tends to alienate audiences. What most people fail to realize about Soderbergh is that he is essentially an experimental filmmaker. Sure he has done films like the Ocean's movies and Traffic, but if you really look at those films you'd see that they are filmed in a style that is usually not prevalent in mainstream films.

So when I say that Contagion lays on Soderbergh's visual and story telling mechanics pretty thick...it means that not everyone will like this film. Of course that's not to say that this film is as pretentious as The Girlfriend Experienceor Schizopolis, it merely means that this film is kind of the exact opposite of Outbreak...yeah. I really need to review more Soderbergh to adequately express my feelings on his films. Anyway lets get to the damn review already.

Contagion follow 10 or 12 characters as they try to explore and survive this epidemic. The film has an almost methodical pacing, which unfortunately means that you feel the film's hour-forty run time. The tone comes off as clinical in nature, airing more towards being scientifically sound than dramatic. Each character of the film, all incredibly well acted, paints a picture that allows for a cohesive view of the epidemic. I frankly enjoyed the film, it's an engrossing piece of story telling and one that I recommend. Still it is important to note that the advertising of the film has portrayed it to be more action packed than the film is in reality. So with that warning aside, give this one a watch.

Title: Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
Year: 1986

Director: John McNaughton


Story: Meet Henry, he's a serial killer and he taking one of his friends under his sociopath wing.

Review: This movie was pretty controversial when it came out and age hasn't dulled its transgressive blade. Like Man Bites Dog, this film places a normally unlikable character...being a serial killer, and places him as a protagonist. Overall it is an uncomfortable film to watch, of course that what also makes it a great film. The production has a very mater of fact like style that grounds the film in some sort of reality. This one ain't for everyone, but if you're venturous enough then give it a shot.

I'd recommend Princess Mononoke. Wonderful film done by Hayao Miyazaki back in '97. Kind of an environmental message(not as bad as Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind), but still a very well done movie. The localization was done greatly and I do recommend you give it a look

Princess Mononoke was an excellent film. I would reccommend it as well.

Seeing as how this thread has been almost down 4 a month, im gonna hit up sexy bout doin the reviews 4 him. I dont mind payin a buck 4 killer elite & the thing. Just gotta make sure hes cool w/ it (even tho sexy & I dont always agree w/ most of the movies).

Yeah, classes and work are taking a toll. I mean I can think of 10 or so films that I can review right now...actually I might review something today.

Story: Ryan Reynolds is trapped in a small wooden box for an hour and a half.

Review: I can't determine whether or not this film's gimmick works. The whole film takes place in a coffin buried several feet underground. Its and interesting concept to say the least and one that seems pretty inexpensive to make. Anyway here is the basic plot; Ryan Reynolds is working for a military contractor as a truck driver in Iraq. His convoy is hit and he wakes up buried in a coffin with a cell phone, a lighter, and some other useful things. With thee phone he needs to find someone who can help him out of his predicament..which is easier said than done.

Ryan Reynolds does a really good job in this role, which is great since he is the only actor we actually see in the movie. He manages to keep the film somewhat interesting for its short run time. Still the issue with a film that take place entirely in such a confined that its kind of difficult to keep the film visually interesting. Overall this is a somewhat successful film that runs out of steam near the end.

Just so ya know stormy, sexy will be reviewing the thing (he called dibs on it) & ill be reviewing killer elite 4 ya. Besides I really like this deal, seeing as how I generally like Jason Statham's films. His last film (I think it was his last film), The Mechanic, must say was actually a rather good movie. Wasnt sure bout this Killer Elite movie but since its on dvd, dont mind spendin a buck on it now. hehe

Title: The Cabin in the Woods
Year: 2012

Director: Drew Goddard

Story: It's about a cabin in the woods...well sort of.

Review: I figure the best way to go about reviewing this movie is not to discuss the plot. The fun of the movie is all the insane twists and turns the plot takes throughout the film and to spoil them would hurt your enjoyment of the film. All in all this is a comedy more than a horror film and one that deconstructs the horror genre with satisfying glee. It feels similar to Rubber or even Funny Games. So far this is one of the better films I have seen this year and one that I wholeheartedly recommend.

Story: Two men hire a guide, known as a Stalker, to lead them through "the zone" to find a place called "the room"...a place that supposedly grants wishes to those who enter.

Review: It is fair to say that I do not know what kind of movies you like or even the kind of movie that you are willing to sit through. So when I say that Stalker is probably not your cup of tea, I'm saying this as merely a generalization, because Stalker is a great film...but it is a very slow moving film and one that is filled with metaphors and deeper meanings. It is the kind of film that begs you to watch it two or three times just to get a clear understanding of the films meaning. So consider this as a warning to those who want to pick up this one just because it has a game named after it, this movie is long, slow moving, and at times almost nonsensical...but still, it is a rewarding experience for those who are willing to spend the time to examine the film.

It stars the less known Olsen sister Elizabeth Olsen Picture Elizabeth Olsen. One thing about her... She can act.
