Naw I still haven't seen it. James Gandolfini is kinda becoming the Tupac of actors...not that there is anything wrong with that.

Then again River Phoenix had a movie released last year, so I don't know.

When I have the time, I'll have to check it out.

Also, in another installment of Sexy Beast's pretentious but probably worth watching upcoming films to watch out for...I'm going to need a better title for this segment/non-segment. Hard to be a God looks to be the foreign film to watch this year.

After a brief detour into Terminator-esque action with The Guest, writer/director team Simon Barrett and Adam Wingard are returning the the genre that made them famous. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the duo is currently prepping a horror film called The Woods. An official plot synopsis is not yet available, but The Hollywood Reporter says the film is about “a group of college students on a camping trip who discover they are not alone,” a typical horror plot that Barrett and Wingard will presumably twist like they did the home-invasion thriller in You’re Next.

Wingard will shoot the movie this spring, and is reportedly looking to cast mostly unknown actors in order to emphasize the film’s horror elements. This puts the status of Barrett and Wingard’s proposed I Saw The Devil remake into question, but as long as the duo is putting out movies, we’re okay with it.

So far, these guys are my favorite writer/director team working today...well outside of the Coen brothers or Lord and Miller.

Review: I saw Eraserhead years ago and I still don't really know whether or not I liked the film. Maybe it's just one of those films that you do not necessarily like, but instead appreciate...who knows. The plot itself deals with some heady themes; like the fear of fatherhood, child deformities, suicide (?), and other horrible crap. Needless to say, this isn't the type of movie you'd pick for a date. This is just a dark and depressing film, that I actually really need to see again because I've forgotten a decent part of this movie. Still, from what I do remember, this is recommend to anyone who is interested in experimental cinema.

Plot: A young recruit in Vietnam faces a moral crisis when confronted with the horrors of war and the duality of man.

Review: For me, this was actually a rather hard movie to watch because it deals with pretty much everything that happened in the Vietnam War. However, I did read a little bit of the background of the movie & its actually based on Oliver Stone's time in the Vietnam War. The first half of the movie seems a little sluggish, but after that, it really picked up action-wise. I actually remember playing the video game portion of this title when it was released on the NES. Anyways, if you want to watch as close to a real portrayal of the Vietnam War as possible, then check out this movie. Like I said above; it is a rather hard movie to watch so putting that disclaimer out there.

How do you feel about the movie Maps to The Stars?
Was not really looking forward to it just because of the trailer I saw really did not give much of what it's about. But reading more into it, started to sound amazing.

Also rumors of a possible Alien movie down the line after the next Prometheus sequel.

Yeah, that first trailer was pretty terrible and killed pretty much any interest that I had in the film. I mean it's Cronenberg so I'll still be checking it out. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I still need to finish Cosmopolis. Also, I think that Blomkamp has confirmed that he's doing an Alien movie...like Fox has greenlighted it. Which based on the concept art that was released, seems like it could be pretty awesome.

Well for me, the biggest issue was that the film set out to explore issues that I don't think it was properly equipped to handle. The question of who made us an why is a pretty profound question to ask and the film's answer isn't particularly all that compelling. For me the two standout things from Prometheus are Micheal Fassbender's performance and the alien birth surgery scene.

It's not by any means a bad film, but it's one that I just cannot help but feel disappointed with.

That's for me of course, for others it might have something to do with this video:..which I think helped to cause some of the backlash.

Also, on a side note: I've been kind of busy lately (read as lazy) so I haven't been dropping a whole lot of reviews.

So I kinda want to take this opportunity and recommend Kingsman. It's a dumb and gleefully violent spy flick from the same guy behind Kickass and X-men First Class. Check it out and expect a full review soonish.
 
Wow that video Beasty. Never seen it but it is kinda spot on. Prometheus felt like a filler movie laid out like a prequel. The sequel is going to be what the first movie should of been.

Review: Kingsman is an ultraviolent send up to James Bond brought to us by the man behind Kick-ass and X-Men: First Class. I don't think I have ever seen a film as gleefully violent as Kingsman, I'm being serious here, like outside of maybe something like Ichi the Killer, I can not quite think of a film that is as gun-hoe about unadulterated violence as this film right here. Fortunately, this film doesn't take itself seriously and as a result the whole thing is just dumb fun. The whole production is just over-the-top entertainment, like the intro credits are made up of debris that has been blasted off of a building. Still, it's not a perfect film, there are some dead ends in the plot and somethings that are slipped in for no reason...but it's a fun and competently put together action film, so if you're interested in that give Kingsman a shot.

Review: This indie comedy is so indie that if you have ever had even the slightest issue with 'indie anything', you will probably hate this film with a passion. With that disclaimer out of the way, this is a mildly entertaining deadpan indie comedy that is occasionally funny. It's alright, pretty forgettable, not really much to write about. Nick Offerman is in the film, so that's cool. He did a pretty funny promotional video with Adam Scott for this movie...so yeah, or whatever...

Agreed. I can't wait to see how much they'll dumb down everything to appease the "average movie-goer".

On the bright side, Scott isn't involved so we wont have his Decker=Android theory getting pushed. Also, Denis Villeneuve is a decent director and might be able to pull it off. On top of that, Hampton Fancher, one of the original co-writers, is back writing this one...so yay

On the negative, Michael Green has been brought in as co-writer...he's known for writing the universally hated Green Lantern movie...so boo.
