Still working on GTO- so far, all I have to say is its completely different from what I expected, yet lovable all the same, and very, very funny.
As to current ongoing shows- I'm disappointed in the start of the 2011 anime season. We have-
Rio: Rainbow Gate- basically pure fanservice and ecchi, with some sort of terrible, convoluted and unfathomable plot tossed in and extremely over-the-top card games. Half of me says its passable for its fanservice, the other half is still trying to figure out what the hell just happened. The last little sliver is trying to justify the show- failing, but perhaps the next episode will make more sense.
Infinite Stratos- Meh. I was hoping for a good harem/ecchi/comedy (such as, say, Sekirei) {this show promised it ALL- ecchi, harem, mecha, comedy, romance), and I'm semi-disappointed. The beginning was a bit too much overt CGI for my tastes (I prefer the Gundam mecha animation compared to this- this is too reminiscent of Linebarrel); the first episode launches itself way into the story {missing the entire background, from the examination [unless that brief fight scene was supposed to be it], how he got into the IS, et.al.et.al.}, and turns a once great voice actress (Yukana- best known as Full Metal Panic's Tessa, Code Geass' CC, Black Cat's Rinslet, and I believe Sekirei's Kazehana) into a terrible one (Olcott's voice acting is terrible- reminds me more of Strawberryfield from Kamen no Maid Guy than anything else)~ it does, however, redeem itself. When I returned to the show later this evening, I must admit that the comedy was present, and worked. Harem? Check. Ecchi? Check. Comedy? Check. Romance? Half-check. The premise was finally starting to shine through, and so long as the mecha action is ironed out (the rest is mostly solid) I'm interested i seeing how this show continues. Just please, please, let this show not tank like Rio: Rainbow Gate has IMHO.
Freezing- finally, the show I was most excited for! Truly a good showing in its first episode- action, ecchi, non-convoluted and understandable plot (that's actually kinda cool), and for an additional 1 internets, its uncensored (Hyakka Ryouran anyone? You can't tell me that show didn't bother you with its inkblots- they were totally out of place, even in the Okami-esque art style, not to mention if you go the route of overt ecchi {instead of suggestive/provocative} you really shouldn't be censoring. Just go suggestive if you're going to do that). Anyways, this show is my favorite, and will remain the only truly promising show of this season until IS gets into gear.
The remaining new shows I haven't watched, or will not watch (Starry Sky, for instance, belongs on the latter list), but I'll get around to it. Questions/Comments/Whatever?
