Well what is your internet speed comming into your house - actually measured using DSLreports.com, what speed do you find yoruself downloading files at and from which location?
That will help answer but basically, you can get an addon for firefox to do segemnted downloads and it will download the same file from like 8 places at once.

my download speed from the server in chicago was 142 Kb/s
upload speed was 443 Kb/s and latency was 37 ms.

is that a typo? Your upload speed was almost 4 times more than your download?... This makes me curious. I was asking about your download speed and location because I thought you were tlkaing baout actually download speed, not the in and out from Source engine which I think si what you are talking about here.
Those number ar eslightly more complicated than just your download speed, so dont worry about them unless you are experiancing lagg of some kind. In which case there is already a nice thread someplace in tech help / tehc talk about lagg.
And Since I use opera, I dont knwo which addon it is, search for it. My roomate has it and it works great.

I think he meant 1420 KB/s UP, cause that is a general speed for connections that are generally 1.5mb up / 364kb down....

i probably had a typo
and i was typing it fast cause my dad wanted me to get off.

It is time to decide reset your hard drive:
1 .- seek installation diskette and reboot the computer from 0.
2 .- install programs favorites, the first time takes morecomplicate because you must download all the software packages that you like,
Messenger, acrobat reader, fire fox, google acelerator, windows media 11 etc etc etc..
Save all these installers in a folder named backup, after that you reset computer allways be easy.
3 .- defragments your hard drive
4 .- the most important thing is to install the fire fox and google acelerator.
5 .- try not to see porn sites on your computer games jejejeje.
6.- Researching on the Internet to optimize the performance of the game, which values video sound so you must adjust, there are many pages that talk about this point.
