<div style="width: 500px; text-align: "center" align="center">As you may or may not have heard, Insurgency has made a move and changed one of it's servers to a Resistance and Liberation (RnL) mod server. Saturday was the first day it was up and functional and immediately we saw promising results. Within the first hour the server was full of people. Now, you may say "You got a server up and people joined, what's the big deal?". The thing is, RnL is a game in it's infancy, alpha v4 to be precise. The beta is being tested in closed servers and normally most of the public servers are empty throughout the day. We popped our server up and people swarmed to welcome the new server to it's community.
As I said, it's still in the building phase, alpha v4. Again, not to put words in your mouth, you may say "Ugh, who wants to play a game that isn't even in beta?". My response, this game is well made even in it's alpha stage and I have played games that were "fully completed" that were less polished and more buggy than this. The game has some things that are being fixed/changed/balanced with it's frequent news updates and patches. The support from it's developers have been outstanding and the community anxiously awaits the public release of it's beta in the coming weeks.
Enough about the back story and now some information about the game.
As, you see above, their approach is to create a sense of realism while maintaining the aspects of what makes a game fun. Very few games today demand the teamwork and strategy that this game requires. If you're a lone-wolf player, this may not initially be for you but if you give it a try and see how exciting and gratifying the team-play is, it may convert your play style. In Insurgency, we survive by utilizing teamwork and effective communication and this game is no different. The goal of Resistance and Liberation is to realistically portray the events and actions taken by the 82nd Airborne during their stay in Normandy. We will attempt to follow the regiments through the campaign that was taken by the men themselves. We will also introduce various other World War II setting maps. The campaign will begin with players dropping into Normandy in the early hours of June 6th with the ultimate goal of capturing the town of Sainte-Mere-Eglise. From there, subsequent maps will include missions based on locations such as Montebourg Station, La Fiere, Carentan, and other key areas.
Our approach in recreating these events is quite different than that of most standard first person games. The principal of our focus is on playable realism. This realism we are referring to is beyond that of Counter-Strike or Day of Defeat. We are attempting to recreate the environment, weapons, challenges, and feeling of WWII combat to the best of our ability while still providing a game that feels fun and comfortable for at least a significant subset of gamers.
Some fundamentals of this form of realism are:
- No crosshair
- No HUD
- No death messages
- Revised score display

An interesting aspect of the game is the sense of one's own mortality. You fall from a high ledge, you may break a leg and must limp to find cover. You get shot in your arm, you may drop your rifle and must scramble to pick it back up. You get shot in your head, yea... you're a corpse that litters the field of battle.
We have several members hosting Boot Camp (training classes) teaching the basics of the game and some strategy. They are excellent hosts and will be more than willing to answer any questions you may have about this mod. Feel free to PM Yeti, Burt_Reynolds, Caffeine-Rx, Hardstyle if you have any questions or would like to participate in Boot Camp.
Other great things:
*It's a FREE mod but it does run off the Source SDK engine.
*Proximity based voice chat, your team needs to be close to hear you but your enemies may hear you as well.
*Aiming is a little different here but in my opinion a lot more effective. There are different stance on how you hold your weapon.
*Morale is in existence here; you run faster/further and shoot more accurately when you have your squad near you. Also, if you watch your team mates get shredded by enemy fire or you're alone in the area, your aim suffers and even the visibility seems to suffer. Quite an amazing and interesting feature.
