Missing out on what? Drug abuse, crappy music being played way too loud, or a bunch of sweaty people I don't know dancing around me?

well whens the last time you went to a music event where there wasnt drug abuse as well as a bunch of people (may not necessarily be sweaty) but that u dont know? & the whole music bit is your opinion.

im sure that you listen to a genre of music that other people would consider crappy as well. personally, its each persons opinion. i happen to be a raver, but dont do drugs. i think the idea of having to take artificial substance to get that "euphoric" feeling is a waste of time. i get that feeling from the music itself. besides im working on being a dj myself. when it comes to being round a punch of sweaty people ya dont know, that happens at rock/metal concerts ALL the time, yet they dont care bout that. all they care bout is having a great time at the concert. same concept at any music event.

i believe that alot of people, not to mention movies, have painted a bad picture of what the music scene really is. unless they really go to an event & get the full experience, they need to stop making up stuff. i am all for a drug free dance floor. i believe that the best way to enjoy the experience fully is to take it all in w/o any artificial stimulants.

THIS.

People complaining have never done it. :chair:

Or rather have differences in opinion.

I prefer the more relaxed party setting, not a club guy but ill hit the bar from time to time.

It is commendable that you wish for the musical experience to be free of drugs. Now I have a friend who goes to raves, and she takes drugs when she goes. This does nothing to help my perception of raves being drug ridden affairs. Drugs seem to be integrated into the culture of raving such as it was to the counterculture in the 70s, much more so than your common rock concert, (which I may add depending on the venue have options for seating separate from the floor where you don't have a bunch of sweaty strangers dancing around you, at least around here)

Oh and of course the quality of the music is up to the listener, but he shouldn't be saying I don't know what I am missing when I already don't like the music.

Plenty of people across a broad spectrum of musical genres partake in "recreational pharmacology" and while I don't myself to slam an entire genre of music based on a portion of that music's audience (however large or small that portion is) seems like a narrow minded way of thinking.

Also to be a kill joy the person who started this thread wasn't asking for people's opinions on raving/rave culture but seemed merely interested in touching base with individuals who shared his enjoyment in it...I think its such a shame when people get lambasted just for politely inquiring.

I'll finish here, while some people enjoy opera, rock, blues, a capella, pop, DnB, RnB, Dubstep, Country Western, Show tunes etc now days people are much less restricted to one or two genres, almost everyone has broader tastes in music and a lot of people if you ask them "what music do you like" will simply say "a bit of everything I suppose". Try to be more open minded and a little bit less judgemental?

Hmm.

I've went to raves that had many using drugs.
Then again I've attended Slipknot and Marilyn Manson concerts as well.
I don't use them nor do I like to contribute to such use of drugs or pills, ect.
But to me it's very sad when they do, as if they cannot enjoy the music.

With genre's I am a multi-genre person.
I listen to everything from Slayer to Micheal Jackson.
From Daft Punk To Dimmu Borgir.
From The Agony Scene to old school Cypress Hill.

I find anyone to follow one Genre and to 'dis others to not fully understand music and/or the use of it.

Carmine, your opinion is close-minded to the point of being on par with the idea that "all Muslims are terrorists", or that "all Catholics abuse little boys". You're generalizing a stereotype that has been blown WAY out of proportion.
