Why do we need six core processors?!

Welcome to computers. Progression is the name of the game.

Oh, and when they first come out people will buy them just to flaunt insane 3dmark scores :D

Any one say: Moore's Law.

Every two years, technology will double.

We may not need it, but if we can research and develop it then we will.

Does any one here need a car that can travel at speeds of 200 mph? No but we buy cars that fast even though we wont drive them faster than 80 or 90 mph on average (yes this is speeding and dont do it).

Do we need a 65" LCD Television? No, but technology allows us to have it and its just as good as a 54" or 42" or even a 37" TV.

Do we need this stuff? Probably not, but because technology can double every 2 years and we can have it, means that we will want it. Whether or not six cores are needed or eight or ten or twelve is not question we should be asking but when, when we will get it?

Rouge.....just no

The reason why, like someone else said, we need MOAR POWER!!
Can the majority use it? Nope. Can the select few that would use it 10% of the time need it? Probably not.
But, it's there for the future, when we actually will need it. But, by then, we'd have much better hexacores and octocores.

also the power has to be there before people start designing applications to use it all.
Currently most pro audio work done using separate DSP cards for running audio plugins and mixing because the dsp cards handle multiple threads better and are much more efficient at handling multiple things at ounce but now companies live avid are considering pushing more towards using native processing power instead of there HD cards since the power and is starting to get there.

What do you mean, I totally need my 80 billion inch LCD TV :P

Moore's Law will be invalid very soon. We're already pushing the limits of transistors too far. I found some article on it also.
