Hello, just around a week ago my graphic card went out on me and now im looking to get a new one. im dont know much about graphic cards so im hoping one of you does. i looked at a few so far, such as (ATI Radeon HD 5770) and (GTX470). those are only a few. if you can help me with finding one that will work with a pci let me know. the longer that im off games, the weaker i get so please help!

Wait, PCI or PCI-E? Those are two completely different standards, the first being unsupported by everyone basically. I'd recommend the 5770, just make sure it's not one of the ones posted with 128 memory interface. The reason I'd recommend the 5770 myself is because ATI always does great with their mid-range cards, you get alot of bang for the buck. I'd take a look at Sapphire's production of it, decent support but I wouldn't take them up on any rebate offers.

That system is heavily dated. I don't recommend getting any graphics card over $100. This would be a good one for your system:

Neither of them require auxilary power, so you just need to plug the card in, install the drivers, and you're good to go.
Note that the ATI card requires 2 slots. The nvidia one requires only 1.

300 watt is absolute minimum for the Galaxy GT 240 DDR3 that I have.

I would get:
ATi Radeon 5770 MSI Hawk edition
Hawk edition cooler provides excellent cooling, and MSI is a quality brand

The only problem with that is it requires a 6-pin PCI-e connector. That powersupply is already pretty low. The reason I suggested the 5670 is that it doesn't require additional power other than what's used from the PCI-e slot.

most vid cards require a minimum of 350w PSU - I know my old 8600GT did and that was a few years back... 305w may send you into reboot from lack of 12v rail juice
