Hey DoD eGO people, I just finished reading Patton & Rommel, and I have to say, it was awesome.... are there any other non-fiction books out there that are any good?

I never knew that Patton was a heavy drinker, and I didn't think that some people thought he was mentally unstable. This only reinforced my thoughts that Rommel was the best general of World War 2, with maybe a few in contention. If Rommel was supplied sufficiently, he could have pushed all the way into the middle east.

Discuss please... :)

Don't let the world of literature poison your mind. I recommend drenching your books with lighter fluid and have a fun campfire the family can enjoy!

Try Connections by James Burke. If you can find it. It was a companion book for a PBS series but it works just fine on its own.

I also liked Great Commanders and their Battles.

And the ever whimsical Miss Manners Guide to Excruciatingly Correct Behavior by Judith Martin.
Check the index for Saliva, Removal of.

The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks is a fun one.

Take your focus away from non- fiction for a bit when you read this.

WE CAME, WE SAW AND KICK THERE AXIS!!! PATTON ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!
B is for Buster is a good one. About the life of a 16 (i think) year olds life in a B-17 during WW2

I Just read some books about some people from Vietnam, I must say they're REALLY good books and REALLY detailed. The more recent one are:

Eyes Behind The Lines
-by Gary A. Linderer

Platoon Leader
-By James R. Mcdonough

Five Years To Freedom-The True Story of a Vietnam POW

-By James N. Rowe

These are really good books that I'd think you'd might like, took me one whole school to read these BTW.

Believe it or not, Art of War was a book I had to read in school.

Heh, its a nice book to read...Kind of weird how a school would put that into their curriculum though...

Non Fiction (Eestern)
Art of War (Sun Tzu)- good stuff
Tao te ching (Lao Tzu)- a little bit of philosophy for you
Hagakure (Yamamoto Tsunetomo)- a book about battle and warrior mentality... ironically written by a samurai with no battle experience

Fiction

Brave New World (Aldous Huxley)- My favorite book of all time.
1984 (George Orwell)- The ying to BNWs yang
Fight Club (Chuck Palahniuk)- If you thought the movie was wicked sick, check out any of his books! ie. Rant, Choke, Haunted, and the list goes on! Note this author is not for the kiddies or those who are weak of mind in regards to explicit situations and violent actions.

As of right now im pretty much just reading comics when i get the chance, check out The Walking Dead if your into the Zombie related junk.

had to read this one in school, but i enjoyed it, and you might have heard of it.

Night by Elie Wiesel

In Harm's Way by Doug Stanton. It's the story of the USS Indianapolis and its sinking and survivors.

The Prince by Machiavelli. A very short paperback that can be read in a couple of hours or less.

I was required to read it in college as part of a "literature class". By rights it should have been required reading in a "this is how to deal with people class". And no I'm not that cynical. Just experienced.
