I realize I am a new "member" here, and I really enjoy this community for the most part. This thread is to clear up some confusion on my part. As we all know, gaming should be fun and in our division we have a lot of it in CS:S. It's my primary game and has been for over 5 years. That being said, something disturbing happened to me today in the highschool server. I was kicked without warning for commenting on a spray that I described as "gay" in the chat box. I understand our rules on swearing, and abide by them, but I wasnt aware the word "gay" was considered profanity. If it is, why then do we hear it almost everyday on network news..."gay marriage", "gay rights", etc... the word "gay" cannot be fined for saying in any media outlet by the FCC. When I went back to the server I politely asked why I was kicked and then I was told by an eGO member that I was in danger of being banned COMPLETELY from all eGO servers and eGO itself. Really?????The other players on this server themselves even questioned this. Any feedback would be welcomed...

Let me see if I can clear this up before leadership has to get into this. The way you were using it was different than the examples you did. You used the term "gay" as an insult to someone else's spray/piece of art they put into the server. The term "gay" that was used as an example was the sexual type of gay. I would agree with the admin who kicked you for it because usual when you use that term in the server, it is to insult/hurt someone in the server. So I hope I answered your quesiton and hope you don't use terms like that anymore. Btw, we shouldn't even be using words like these on the server PERIOD!

Well what I have heard from many people is that gay is a derogatory term and can be offensive to some people. And even if there is a gay player on our servers well we do not want to hear about their sexual preference while we play the game. That is what was told to me back in like March.

Even though I cannot make the rules on eGO servers its best not to use words such as gay and a few others that have a true meaning, but also have a offensive meaning. The reason why is because we as Admins along with the other players may not no what meaning you're using.

Also retarded is another word that tends to be taken wrongly, try to refrain from things that may upset or cause disruption to the servers. Instead of saying something is "gay" you could have just not said anything at all and said it in your head. Or find a more appropriate word to describe things.

Yes. It is considered sexism since it is derogatory towards a sexual preference or gender and that along with racism are generally permabans. Some leeway is granted for first offenses, especially considering you are not accustomed yet to eGO's rules. For instance, if I had said the same thing I would probably not be with eGO right now lol.

I suggest reading up on eGO's Code of Conduct again.

I think it also is because your a member of ego now (congratulations btw) that you are an example on the servers for all the non-members, so anything you say that could be taken in poorly affects our whole clan not just you as an individual.
