Well guys, for all of you who are new or unexperienced in the competitive side of TF2 I've been writing a little guide in my free time. Read it over and feel free to ask questions and comment in this thread and I'll be more than happy to help in any way possible!

Completed:

Introduction
Soldier

Under Construction:
Medic ETA: Tomorrow (6/15/10)
Scout ETA: 6/16/10

Do you feel I'm wrong in some way? Did I miss something vital? Shoot me a Private Message and I'll address it or fix it as needed.

Hope it helps!!!

But wait Kevi, you haven't answered all of my questions yet!!!
The class specific questions will hopefully be answered as I make those class segments, but if its either pressing or it has gone unanswered, post all of your questions in this thread and I'll answer you to the best of my knowledge and abilities!

Also, please note that as of now this is a basics guide on how to play these classes and this game for pubs switching to competitive, not really for people already fairly well versed in competitive, although it can't hurt to look over. I will be making an advanced tactics and strategies section once I am finished with the basics.

Tip #1: Don't die.

tip #3: if you feel that your team is being rolled on Blackmesa ENGIE RUSHHHHH!!
#4 remember even with the pyro nerf you dont have to be good to play pyro.

7 Learn to run!
8 Learn to fake death....
9 Learn to play tf2 like [Insert Advisor,DL,Council,Commgr]
You wonder why you keep getting kicked out of royal rumble....
They talk to each other they know what the other team does.
Talk to one of them old time leadership, they play starting as a little e to a eGO and on. They know the game.

Also dont forget that Medic spam is not ok unless your scared for you life.

Yeah. Promotion is definitely based on skill. That's why Scrappy is a DL.

/lololol.

Anyone who has played comp before I highly suggest you attend its a whole diff game.

Kevi, this is a well written guide. I know most of the information there, but it's presented well, and it's an excellent introduction.

However, I would suggest something: Pictures. I'm an academic, and I'm used to reading books hundreds of pages long, using totally academic language with nary but a map to break it up, but the average person isn't. My thought is to throw up some quick gary's mod things, or just a search on google images. It's amazing how much more digestible it will make it.

Other than that, there are some little mistakes here and there, but that's cool. Running a simple re-read would fix most of the little things. As a whole, it's excellent; well put together, and I'm looking forward to reading the next parts.

As a record for new players: I fully support/endorse this product/service.

rule #10: The sentry is a spahh
rule #11: Go after enemy sandvich. Mo sandvich = mo betta.

Thanks Dread, I'll look into cooking up some stuff in GMOD :)

Yeah. doesn't have to be fancy... just something to break it up.

I did exactly that with my engie guide... but my current guide I'm working on (heavy) looks way better, because I'm using the TF2 model viewer, and making the background alpha with gimp so the pictures just look nicer. You could also try that out; they blend better :)
