Anyone own a Alienware M11x??

Hey guys. Unfortunately my other computer died :[ And this one can't handle games. I was wondering If anyone can tell me how good the Alienware M11x laptop is if you own one. Could you provide me with a brief list of games it can handle? And how long will it take before games become too advance to be played on it. Thanks again.

Just wondering, why not build your own computer?
You'd save literally 300-500 over a comparable Alienware computer.
Also, why a laptop? Well, actually, the M11x is a netbook. So, why a netbook? Especially for gaming?

Alienware is a ripoff and dell's equipment is notoriously faulty. You wasted your money. Which is completely understandable to someone who doesn't know how to build his own, I used to be like you....long ago.

You can build your own laptop too, it just takes a steadier hand and the patience to look for good parts.

i wouldnt get a laptop to game on in my opinion, i rather take that money and put it toward a nice desktop, and like with any other technology not even a year later there is something better than it out there.

Wrong thank you. My wife and I between the two of us have had 5 Dell computers, all state of the art. We have had one hard drive fail in 11 years and my 5 year old Dell XPS still runs most games with acceptable frame rates. Dell is up and down like everyone else:

We have said it over and over in the tech forums. If you have experience with faulty equipment or great equipment, and want to share with other members fine, but please do not make general statements like Dell sucks, etc.

You shouldn't even attempt to build a laptop, though. There is no standard for the parts, so it's incredibly hard to find matching parts, like physically.

I didn't waste anything, since I haven't bought it yet, which is why I posted here in the hopes of getting good replys, which I did, thanks for the help everyone.

Do not buy an Alienware under any circumstances. Magazine advertising companies like Cyberpower and iBuypower are no better off too which ship their parts 100 fold later than expect and hand you over a half broken PC with rattled HDDs, corrupt Operating Systems, and and a horrible wiring job.

As for other options, if you're really looking into buying a laptop for GAMING I politely will ask you not to if you're planning on playing high end games from this day and age because most laptops come with pretty decent CPUs but their GPUs are lacking and in reality today most games barely push 2 threads and leave all the work to the GPU.

I strongly recommend you build yourself a PC or get someone from Tigerdirect to do it for you for a $100 labour throw in. You're much better off than with a laptop or a half ass desktop from rip-off may I exaggerate "brand names".

If on the other hand you aren't a hardcore gamer then I strongly recommend you just lookup laptops from somewhere like www.newegg.com, one of the most realiable Tech websites I've come across in all the years I've dealt with computer technology.

if you are set on alienware let me know and i can get you a ton of info from my fiance who works for dell. though, i am going to tell you that when it came time for us to buy a laptop...and even though my fiance works for dell...we bought a hp!

It's only a couple hundred more than an Alienware is selling for and is getting excellent reviews.

Drawbacks though is its battery life and I'm not informed on how well an average Alienware's battery life is.

I'm thankfull for all of the help. And I'd love for a guide on how to build one. But I've been asking if it is good for playing games. Not for a better computer. What is it that makes everyone hate this alienware computer so much? Is it just the price?

Yes Alienware is over priced, yes quality went down after Dell bought them. Yes they still make decent laptops for gaming. What is your budget for a new laptop? Are you set on 11"? How much Memory, etc?

The alienware M11x isn't horrible. It's 11 inches......so its a small screen but thats what its meant for. A portable gaming system. They said it's meant to be hooked up to a larger monitor but i can't see the GPU pushing out the FPS at a higher resolution.

It's honestly not a terrible gaming machine at all, if your not hardcore and don't need the highest settings etc....it's perfectly fine and will do good. It also looks sweet.

Yes, alienware are overpriced and i will still stand by that but the M11x is a decent price, if i had the money i'd go for a more expensive one but its not bad.

If you want a real budget gaming laptop.......go for Asus, they make some of the best.

That laptop is amazing for the price.....Asus G series 5870M gpu, crazy good for only $1,500........an alienware one would be like $500 more for the same performance

Go look at Asus if you want a budget gaming laptop....they're now the best bang for the buck, used to be Gateway FX but i think they've stopped making them.
