Anyone own a Alienware M11x??

Yes Alienware is over priced, yes quality went down after Dell bought them.

wow look at all the incorrect information on this thread. Just so you know, alienware's overall quality actually went up after they were bought out by dell. Alienware leadership was kept in tact, they were able to offer better warranty services, better shipping and to more places, and were able to get their hands on parts for cheaper from all of dell's partnerships.

I have an alienware m17x and it works perfectly. Never had any issues with it other than poor video drivers, but that is nvidia's fault. Also, it runs every game I throw at it on full settings except for STALKER and Crysis. I suspect it might have trouble running full quality on Far Cry 2 but I never tried that game out. I have also had a dell xps laptop, which back in 06, were top of the line. In short, the xps 1210 that I had was a piece of junk. Like Boyle said, dell and alienware both have their ups and downs. Just do your research and you will not turn into one of these people that bash on entire companies because of one bad experience.

Additionally, I dont think a gaming netbook is worth the money. I would guess the technology is more fragile than other gaming laptops, and regular sized gaming laptops are fragile enough as is. If you want to buy a gaming notebook try the m15x or m17x. Or perhaps a different company such as ibuypower or sager?

take a look at dell's studio laptops if youre interested in dell.

Best bet would be to build a nice desktop instead unless you absolutely need the laptop for portability. If must have a laptop, have a look at ASUS ROG notebooks, you can get a fully loaded one for under $1000 .

Dont own the M11x myself, but i must say it looks very sexy all around. When i find a way to get rid of my current notebook, i'll probably end up with one of those.

Here's what I've been through. I bought a Gateway p7805u (a great gaming laptop). I loved it. It played anything, I could take it to school and play my games there too. Well, with it being big, heavy, and a 3hr battery life, I was ready for something else. So I built a gaming desktop and bought a cheap netbook. To put my desktop into reference of an Alienware, my rig was made of high quality parts, had a bigger hdd, and the ram I purchased had a higher frequency. Not to mention it was $1000 cheaper (not including the monitor, but oh well). After dealing with my netbook for a semester, I ended up selling it and buying an ASUS UL50VT (a light 15" laptop, with up to 8hrs of battery life, has a 210M dedicated card and an integrated when I want to conserve on battery).

Sure the laptop costed $700 and my desktop $1400, but I'm definitely happy and set for a while.

ive actually had problems with built computers, ive never built my own so i wouldnt know how to put one together, but i originally owned a computer where the builder put everything together and when the person turned it on, the computer literally exploded.

I love my alienware, yes it was expensive, but ive had no problems with it since ive got it, it runs amazing and the graphics are amazing for what i payed for.

The luxury is building it yourself. Obviously the person who built your rig had no idea what he was doing or made a terrible mistake. I have built several machines for myself and countless for others. Have even done some builds over steam PM and webcam. Like someone else said its pretty straight forward, plug this into that and continue plugging this into that. Tutorials are all over the internet not to mention you have thousands of users here at eGO who would be more than happy to help, such as myself. Also a very good skill to learn for when you run into trouble, you will know how to fix/troubleshoot it on your own without relying on someone else. Plus building your own gives you the flexibility of more future upgrades, overclocking, etc.

I am getting an Alienware M15x laptop in a couple of weeks so that I will be able to play with the clan on the go. My friend owns an M11x and he tells me that it is a very great gaming laptop and he is satisfied with it.

If someone could configure an M11x from the link below, I'd very much appreciate it. I have the money and I'm set on getting one. But if you don't mind cutting the cost a bit yet have it great for playing games, I'd love that.

BTW Once you get to the warranty part, I want a 1year. Don't worry about other things that don't have to do with performance.

This is the best performance i can think of without spending a killer amount.

I put in an i7 processor.........the core duo SU wont do you good.

4gb of ram - pretty much standard now and a must
+
250gb 7200RPM - 5400RPM would be fairly slow

If you want cheaper then just go with the i5 and 4gb of ram. It would save about $200 off the one above. Basically it would be $999 flat.

You could go with the even cheaper processor but it will bottleneck as i've read from early reviews with that configuration and its not that good. The i5's/i7's are a lot better.

Cheapest one would be $850 with the cheapest processor and 4gb ram.

Well the one I configured myself was $1,300 which is the highest I'd go.

Didn't read much of the thread but I can tell you A Mac is probably more worth your money if your gonna buy over priced computers (For the amazing battery life) Otherwise go for similar speced computers down the line like Dell or HP.

But this is a gaming computer, not just a college computer.
There isn't nearly enough games on Mac yet for it to be a better choice for gaming over a PC.
