ok i just installed team fortress 2 and when i tried running it..it said that my graphics must support pixel shader 1.1. what is that and how do i fix it?

Usually there is no way to fix that besides updating your video card.

Could you post what video card you are using?

ok well your gonna laugh...hard... nvidia geforce4 mx integrated gpu

I'm not going to laugh. Im going to say that you should get a new video card. I'm not sure but i dont think the card doesn't have 1.1

That's probably the problem.

You could always try this,

Right click on TF2 in steam. Click properties, then set launch option, Type -dxlevel 81

the dxlevel 81 thing didnt work...can i just simply update my drivers?

well - your graphics card has to support a certain directX level as well as a certain pixel shader level.

From the reading i've done here it would seems yours does not.

Exactly. You could Google it and try to find a workaround, but it's very unlikely.

-dxlevel7

years back when I had onboard video, I just ran all the Source games in DirectX7... worked fine
It's not the fact that it's onboard, it's the fact that it is a really old onboard trying to run a newer game (tf2). It doesn't support the new shader model, only way to play is to get a new video card, which if he has a laptop isn't possible.

DX7? YUCK!
My friend runs DX8.1 on TF2 and it looks like $%&*. I can't even imagine what it looks like in DX7.

ok well i just wasted my money...do you know if steam would give me refund i cant afford a vid card nor do i know how to put it in if i did

They won't refund.

If your using a laptop, you can't upgrade your video card anyway.
