Battlefield 4 Chopper controls

Is it me or am I the only one that cant fly the chopper with the current settings? Usually there is a invert switch somewhere in settings.. I found something like that however it seems that it had no effect? I am usually fairly proficient at flying but with the controls reversed.

I think in the options menu there is a box to tick for inverting chopper controls. But, I don't fly the chopper so I dunno

Although with the new settings changing things up a bit, some choppers are easier to fly than others, imo.

Hahaha! that is funny Blue! yea.. I had the same reaction when I jumped in the first time, lol

Here I was thinkin.. yea, jump in boys.. I got this... did a sweet nose dive in seconds flat and killed everyone on board!

I hate the Heli, i suck at flying it. Makes me wish i still had my pedals and flypro joystick. I wounder if its different with the falcon?

You know what i cant figure out, every time i jump out of a heli when you notice you have a terrible pilot, i get wacked by the helicopters razor sharp propellers

+1 I hate when that happens!

I've changed my controls to W,A,S,D and arrow keys. The handling is still pretty challenging, but I'm slowly getting the hang of it... killed 4 teammates in the learning process. -400 points... :cursing:

Finally found how to invert the controls, simply click vertical fly.. I don't know why they had that in the general tabs category, was looking in flight controls.. that woulda been logical. Phew, first flight a success!

Nice! I love flying the choppers. I use the default settings and the recent update made turning the chopper a lot easier. In addition, they have the ability to fire flares on top of the fact that tracer darts are less effective, choppers have become the most annoying weapon in the game besides the infamous Gustav.

I can't fly to save my life (or those on board). I need to practice more. I miss the days of jets in BF2.

OK, all of that was pretty useless.

I can fly the heli's and I'm usually on the server early in my morning spending time in them. I use the keyboard and mouse. Keyboard for power +/- and yaw. The mouse for translational flight(roll) and pitch control. I've tried yaw on the mouse and my aiming ability is much better but I can't adapt to it as I'm too deep into the other control set. I've tried a joystick but I really want to keep it simple, I fly r/c planes and ailerons and elevator are on the right stick.

It seems I always fly better in practice than I do in combat :^)

There are some REALLY good pilots out there, what control setup do you use?
What is vertical fly?

Sorry to go off-topic here, Slick, but how on earth did you land on a 5-year-old thread? Having said that, the last activity for some of the posters here is from months or years ago, so I wouldn't expect a response

I posted here rather than start a new thread on the same thing, esp since there are two others as well. Ans sorry to be so slow to respond but I don't seem to get notices, no biggie..

Anyhow, I can control and fly the helo's. I can do it so much better when no one else is on the battlefield for some reason, lol! But I could be better, more effective if I had better control. I use the mouse and keyboard, A/D for yaw and the mouse for roll(translational movement). My aim would be better if I had the same control in yaw as I have in roll, proportional instead of On/Off. 90% of my rockets miss when trying to kill another helo and it takes way too many passes on a tank to kill it while if I'm in a tank, I'm dead in two helo passes.

I don't want to get my joystick out, it has bad rudder control anyhow. I've tried swapping roll/yaw controls but it would take forever for me to get used to it and it goes against all my other flight controls in r/c flying.

The real question is, "What are the good pilots doing to get good control with all axes of flight?" I realize that most all are gone from this forum but I still have a good 1.3 million points to go till Level 50 so I thought it worth asking.

Dennis, I am ranked #12 in the USA for Attack Heli kills, and have logged over 400 hours in the Attack Heli. The truth is there is no right way or wrong way to fly the helo. I personally use WASD and a "on the fly" adjustable mouse and have the seat switch, ECM, and switch weapon set on my mouse as well. I would suggest this find something you can control the heli with and then PRACTICE rinse and repeat. This is the only sure way to get better. Our very own LTJuanDon also made a tutorial for loads of the heli.

Some pilots have a way of almost using mostly banking around building and such using little if any yaw. Almost like a water slide effect if you will. I personally prefer yawing alot, but also use it in combo with banking/rolling. Again it just practice, also having a good gunner helps.
