It doesn't work that way.

You're not making a new map from scratch, you're dressing up an existing map that has almost no art assets, not even a sky box.

They want to see if people can make a unique look for the currently bare map, that's all.

cool, it won't be out soon though, the submissions end in late september, and thats not factoring in judging and valve time

Its not really a map contest but a creativity contest!

It seems simple but for a map to be good, it needs to look good!

Blackmesa would never in a million years be an official map...while many enjoy it, the pacing is weird, it's essentially a giant freaking maze with a fish at the bottom, and does not offer all classes a very equal opportunity to shine.
