The Mountain by Balthus
Balthus is one of my favorite people, mainly because he resists any biographical attempts on him. Someone asked him to write something for a gallery that was showing his works.
Here is what he said :
"NO BIOGRAPHICAL DETAILS. BEGIN: BALTHUS IS A PAINTER OF WHOM NOTHING IS KNOWN. NOW LET US LOOK AT THE PICTURES. REGARDS. B.""
This was the only one of his works that I found appropriate for eGO. The technique is really bold, and the expressions on the peoples faces is very interesting. There isn't a lot more depth to this particular piece, but it is steal very intriguing.

Another quick question, the man in the back of the picture, any idea why he is there?

Good question. This painter has a lot of ideas about facism/communism and the like, and most likely it represents the governement watching over the people. Or its a guy on a hill.
Anyways, to make up for that bad explanation, here are some good examples of conceptual photography.

Figured that I would post my favorite painting:
The painting is called the "Last Martini" by Michael Godard who is called "The rockstar of the art world." The painting is an awesome spoof of the Last Supper as all the people are replaced with fruits and various other things that are placed into "drinks"
In the painting Mary Magdalene is the strawberry, Judas is the rotten apple and Jesus is the Olive in the middle. Michaels favorite is in fact the Olive as he uses it throughout quite a bit of his art

Maybe there is no meaning. Or maybe its the fact that the one marble that seems to be "wounded" is seperated from the rest. isolated because of his injury. Maybe its a statement about the handicapped. Or maybe its just some cool marbles.

My uncle is doing a big statue for the town (Bethel, CT)
I helped on it when I had the time. It was a crazy experience. An enlargement tool, a lot of wax based clay, and music. It was really fun. It is at the foundry right now to be cast in wax, and then taking that to make a bronze statue.

Dr. Waldmann by Roy Lichtenstein

"Roy Lichtenstein was the master of the stereotype, and the most sophisticated of the major Pop artists in terms of his analysis of visual convention and his ironic exploitation of past styles."
This is a great painting. Look at the way that its almost cartoonish, almost comic-strip looking.
The emotion on the doctors face and the way he is standing, is very serious. Lichtenstein combines these two to suggest, among other things, that this playful style of art can still portray deeper messages.
This is a great lead in to Comic Book art, which is for tomorrow.

i dont really have a problem with graffiti when it looks like that

Jack Kirby is often called the #1 comic book artist of one time. Jack Kirby not only made astonishing visuals, but basically kept the comic book industry alive. Unfortunately due to copyright issues, I can't post more of his famous stuff like Thor #154-157. But here is what I could find:

These are just some cool ones.
Serious talk: origami has been around for a helluva long time. Recently it has been making a comeback as artists try more and more diverse things. Sometimes Origami is recommended as a way to reduce stress levels. I advise all of you to give it a try and make your own art!
