Hello, As my MacBookPro recently broke, I wish to change laptops for a better gaming experience that involves higher FPS then my previous of 30 on low settings :cursing:

My budget is around or less then 1500USD, and I need some advice on what laptop to choose for gaming. I was thinking something along the lines of a HP dv7-3113 which I can currently get at 1,089.26 USD

2,10 Ghz AMD Athlon? II Dual-Core-processor
ATI Radeon? HD 4650 1GB dedicated
RAM 2 x 2048 MB

Thanks for any help :)

Why a laptop? Do you have any space for a desktop? With $1500, you can build a beast, then with the remaining, you might be able to get a netbook or something if you need a laptop for on the go.

I prefer to have something portable that I can bring when I travel because I move countries every 2/4 years or so. Desktop is also possible but a bit too large for my desk.

If you can link me to some good desktops that would be great, but I prefer a laptop.

Would you be willing to build your own? Or just going for a prebuilt?

It doesn't matter too much, but again I would prefer a laptop. I have experience in building my own, so it is possible but it may be a hassle.

Don't worry, I can help if you have any questions. What do you want the computer for? I could probably go with a good gaming computer for DOD:S, and a nice laptop for when you're not at home that could still game decently.

ARGH! eGO's website needs to be redone, there is just too much stuff to load on one page. My internet is weeping.

I want a laptop/computer that is 50% gaming and 50% surfing, and I would really prefer to have 1 and not 2 computers. I won't only be playing dod:s also L4D2 and GMOD amongst other games.

I could possibly (big maybe) get a Alienware m15x for just above $1200, and would like to hear if this is a better choice then getting a custom built desktop or another laptop.

What other games?
I would advise getting a desktop first, but if you absolutely want a laptop (which for gaming, is completely stupid imo), then get an ASUS RoG one.

Could you also suggest some pre-built desktops or vital components so I could build it?

For $1500? If you want the most out of that price,
i5 760, 4gb mem, 60gb SSD, 1TB storage HDD, SLI 460s, 650-750W PSU

It depends on the games. You could get away with a much cheaper system, and save some money in your pocket

The third. The first two are horribly out of date. Socket 775 has been dead for 2+ years. Just let it die in peace.

The reason he's pushing desktops is because desktops will always be cheaper for better performance. Always always.

And like he said, the first two are out of date. Don't just look at clock speed on the processor, check how old the model line is. Core2 Duo is old, and even if it's running the same clock speed as an i3 the Core2 Duo will still be less powerful.
