Okay so I just made this new sniper rifle and took it out for a spin on the Egypt server. Me and Tam were both toting the thing and comparing notes and certain instances because we're usually playing sniper and new items are always bring new circumstances.

First things first as advertised and stated about the weapon you can't get headshots with it and it does produce the Jarate effect on hit. Thing is it doesn't always get the Jarate effect unless you hit someone with a full charge. At anything less then a full charge say 50% it will produce the effect 1/2 the time and at anything lower it will hit at random chances. This is also true if you try and unscope someone. When hit the Jarate effect is produced over a small area so it can be coated on multiple people even if you only hit 1 of them.

Interesting note about this sniper rifle is that it can kill 2 people in 1 shot. I did this multiple times tonight and Tam also got a few "2 for 1"s here and there.

This is much better weapon then the "Lucksman" imo and is also one for those who take their time to aim and shoot at a target rather then quickly scoping to hit them. That being said I had to adjust my sniping style to cope with the weapon nuances to get the most out of it and did alright on the server with helping my team out.

It is a very team oriented weapon and 2 good snipers with this weapon using the full effect of it is very hard to beat. 2 Full power Shots will bring down any class, me and Tam tested it. Often times tonight I would hit with the Jarate effect and Tam would finish them off with the 2nd shot right after and vice versa.

Hope this answers any questions people might have about this particular item. I hope people put up some discussions about the new items with their particular experiences and nuances for using them.

looks like a weird weapon... not really looking forward to this update's effect at all

on the other hand... it would be nice to find this item

It would be amazing to find that...but then the well known complex moral dilema of save or scoff?

Wouldn't two huntsman shots or two regular sniper rifle shots kill any class as well?

It's a weapon that encourages bodyshots lowering the skill ceiling for the sniper, terrible weapon IMO. A sniper with the full set just sit in corners can't get headshot and bodyshots all day.

Yeah my bad I just meant it encourages more teamwork because of the Jarate effect. Sorry for the wrong wording :P

To be honest as a sniper, I think it requires more skill then people realize. Yes you can't headshot with it and do body shots all day. But how easy is it to be accurate when you're in situations where people are shooting at you with rockets, nades, and whatnot? Unless you're on the defensive side its not that easy to just sit there most of the time. You need to fully charge up a shot with this weapon to get the most damage and the Jarate effect 100% of the time while being shot at from every direction. Plus you need the full set to not be "headshotted" and you lose out on the defensive properties of the Razorback from Spies and the laughable damage from the smg actually becomes minorly relevant with the Jarate effect and it somewhat encourages melee fights more because with the new set knife you get crits if you would otherwise minicrit i.e from the Jarate effect.

Plus I don't know about you, but I dont know any half decent sniper worth their salt that just sits in 1 position all day. Thats just asking to get rocket/nade spammed to death.

P.S. I said more skill then people realize not more skill in general.

Sitting way back waiting with a full charge body shot IS easy. The skill required is minimal.

It just isn't efficient.

Many people think they are leet snipers; most are wrong. Many a time I've seen arguments between snipers as to why one should change classes due to alleged inferior skill; usually, it's both that suck. ;)

Taking the other perspective; that is, as a player who may be hit with a Sydney Sleeper, I think it could be a good thing. Picture a heavy/medic on the bridge of 2fort, standing next to a dispenser. Yes, a good sniper would take out the medic then the heavy. For all the others, hitting the medic + the heavy and causing min-crits might allow their team to handle it.

I guess I'm saying it could be beneficial for the team, if a sniper can quickly hit multiple enemies from a distance while teammates finish them off close-up, it could be brilliant. Maybe pair up a Sydney Sleeper sniper with a soldier for long-ranged lutz?

Not looking forward to charging across the field, enemies fleeing before me, only to be hit from nowhere with the Sydney Sleeper and summarily dispatched by inferior babies...

I don't like it that much, I can't quickscope :(

Well I can, its just completely and totally ineffective :P

I dont care for the weapon...No bullet-based gun should have a blast radius...Other than that, I dont see any real problems with the gun

I've just always hated corner-hugging body shotters. Not only is it not skillful, but it also is just terribad for game play. Nobody wants to play against it because it's sooooo boring.

It's not that I want vanilla servers, it's just that there are a few very very very very very very stupid weapons.

Having gotten this gun early I think it offers both a more team orented approach to the sniper and makes sniper more accesable to those that can't headshot for whatever reason.

See a heavy in combat? Wait for 50% charge (the jaratee activation) and shoot so he dies quick. Bonus point if you wait for 75% charge (to achieve a piercing shot) and get the medic too.

See a suspicios player? Paint that spy yellow.

Notice a treatening player? Paint them yellow. Soldiers are known to be attracted to the color yellow :).

Need I even mention crowded hallways?

You will not be pluging kills from battlements all day (thats what the rifle's for). You will not be a source of suppression fire (umm hello? Lucksman). You are a true support class. Grab the set bonus and you don't have to devote as much attention to enemy snipers while you support.

I have yet to try it (I have yet to shelve my Jaratee since the sniper vs spy update), but this gun will theroreticaly synergize well with the SMG. Get that 50%+ shot to jaratee them then tear them up with the SMG.

That's a really good point. I'm starting to like the update... I thought I'd hate it but I kind of fell in love with the black box lol

Yeah, sniper is more defensive now. He cant headshot BUT with whole set he cant be headshoted either so yea..

But i still prefer regular sniper riffle

I tried this weapon out today, I think it makes it really easy for the sniper to get kills. I've never taken out so many people with less-than-half-charged body shots before.

As a bonus, it is a very amusing weapon to use. :)

with a name like the sydney sleeper, it should stun people for 8 seconds like the sandman, not pee on them. Its not the sydney pisser. or something.
