So when tf2 was only ten dollars I jumped on it and got it for my girl friend, she has played maybe once so far and only because she knows it will make me happy.

I was wondering if anyone had experience getting their girl friend or wife to enjoy the games I do. It would be great if we could share this activity I enjoy so much together.

Any input? Anything in particular to tf2 I could show her or tell her about to get her to like it? :w00t:

if she doesn't want to, don't force her to. o_O If she likes it and has fun with it then invite her to play with you. It's always fun to spend time with your partner.

Invite her on, then have her go heavy and you go medic, camp Mesa or Turbine Vents with her. She will find it enjoyable (easy kills + having fun with you), and after a while if/when she gets more into it you can stop just going medic and go other classes and she'll learn how to be self-sufficient (still save her life from the occasional W+M1 Pyro or Spy, she'll be thankful).

Anyway, thats my advice, plus what Modus said, if shes still not interested after playing Heavy + Medic with you one or two times then don't push it on her, if you push her into it she won't enjoy it and will be less likely to try it of her own free will in the future.

Show her how much fun THIS girlfriend is having!

...I love this video, but I'm not going to post material that's not eGO appropriate here.

My wife will watch me from time to time, but she just doesn't dig this kind of gaming. Different folks, different strokes. Gaming aside, find something she enjoys doing and do that with her. That way she may show more of an interest in it than before. That's my two cents anyway. Oh, and I don't do relationship counseling. I approve this message. :)

Oh, and I approve Shinobi's message. That's hilarious.

My girlfriend started out playing Zombie Panic Source, then she realized how many immature people played that game, so I bought her The Orange Box for her Steam account. She plays occasionally on our Turbine server with me, but her laptop is kind of dated, so soon I'll be building her a computer.

Just talk to her about it, and if she's into other games (console in particular), get her to start out on Half Life 2 like I did with mine. She will get the hang of it pretty fast and hopefully sucked into the story.

This, spot on. I was going to say this exactly.

My g/f has popped up on Mesa a few times. When we end up on the same team, I'll be her Medic and she just loooooooves to plop down and fire a bazillion bullets at everyone :D. Heavy and/or pyro would be perhaps the easiest to master, with you as a Medic helping her out. I would also suggest opening a Steam chat and using the voice chat feature for just the two of you (unless you're in the same room together).

idk i don't has a gf right now :( lol but the girl i like plays video games but she doesn't have a pc capable of pc gaming :( though she doe likes tf2 even though shes never really played it lol

This is a good idea.

Have you done stuff you don't particularly enjoy and given it a whirl for her? See if there is something like that you could do and try a trade off. Who knows you both may find something you enjoy and didn't expect to. :p

Ultimately though if it isn't something she is into (not all girls enjoy running around killing things/people) then don't try to force it. Having her watch you play a bit (if she likes that much at least) can help too since she can see a good player and learn tips which could help her come to like it even more...I know I've learned some fun things to try while watching my guy. :)

So this is the thread where we brag about having an SO?
Yea... well... sometimes my cat tries to play TF2 with me. But stepping on the keyboard doesn't work all that well.

I imagine you could probably train her to press the correct buttons by reinforcing certain behaviors. Start by giving her a treat every time she plays TF2 with you.

I say bribe her. with money. and candy. and lots of favors for her (you may end up doing dishes a lot)

Tell her there is a "Mall" in TF2 and she can go there and buy "Things" from the "Mall".

(this is assuming she likes the Mall)
