An EVE Battle Report

Sometimes in EVE not everything goes as planned...

A Happy Beginning

<div style="width: 500px; text-align: center" align="center">It was late one recent Sunday night, and Milwaukee, EXE, Hala Kast, and your esteemed author decide to clear some sleeper sites in a connected wormhole system. Milwaukee is flying his Nighthawk, an expensive but powerful ship equal to two of our standard fit PVE Drakes. EXE and myself are flying the standard fit Drakes, ships that are no slouches in their own right. Lastly, Hala Kast is salvaging and looting the wrecks in his Cormorant, a defenseless ship fitted out to come in behind us and collect all of the loot that's left once the site is cleared of NPC enemies. His role is the role that actually makes us money. And with 19 sites to clear and only 4 people involved in the operation, the payout was looking to be pretty good. Rough estimates put the take at about 200 million ISK (EVE's in-game currency) per person. To put that into perspective, that's about four times the cost of the Drakes that EXE and myself are flying. Or put another way, 200 million ISK is almost 2/3 of the way towards being able to purchase another month of subscription time. In short, it's a lot of ISK and we're all looking forward to spending it on new toys.

Everything is going fine, and we're working on clearing site #5, when we spot a Helios -- a covert ops ship -- on our scanners. He's lurking somewhere in the system, but we don't know where. Mil calls for us to recall our combat drones to our drone bays, and for the salvager to activate his cloak. Now, while you can fit a cloaking device to almost any ship in the game, few of those ships can fly around a system while cloaked. The rest have to remain stationary while their cloak is active. A covert ops ship is one of the few that can fly while cloaked. Furthermore, when you're flying a covert ops ship, there are only two reasons to drop your cloak: to jump through a gate/wormhole into another solar system, or to launch scanner probes which will let a pilot pinpoint the location of other ships in space. Shortly after we see the Helios on scan, we see his probes on scan. This guy is looking for us. Things are about to get interesting.</div>

I think it's funny that all these stories from EVE are so spectacular and make me want to play it so bad. But when I try to play, the gameplay is so incredibly dull it makes me want to claw my eyes out. It's quite sad really.

The missioning part of it is dull, yes. but, getting into low-sec space, worm holes and things of that nature make it EXTREMELY fun.

I had the same idea while i was in the eGO corp when i started. running missions = boring. Then we got into the wormhole. Lots of fun usually and plenty of money to be made. Plus, training for new ships that blow stuff up better = fun.

This really makes me want to play. Only, I played the trail and I couldnt figure anything out..

damn you for trying to pull me again sirens of EVE!!!! DAMN YOU!!!!!

i will not be lured in again....... must........resist.........but spaceships..........so.......cool.........GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

*end of fatty*

thats just some of the cool stuff you get to do in EVE, hope that got more people to sign up or atleast try the trail :D

maybe be back sometime soon :) although i never really contribute to anything in eGO other then the salvaging during the monday night missions we did a while back :/

Eve really is one of the most complicated games that I've ever played. It has also been one of the most rewarding and team oriented games that has brought a lot of enjoyment as well. I've been a member of eGO for over a year but I just started with the eGO Eve corp about 4 months ago and it has been a great ride. 21 day FREE trials are available from any of the eGO Eve members, feel free to PM any of us on the forums or find us on Vent. Grinding some missions solo? Not the most fun ever. Flying into a PVP situation with a team of eGO guys at your wing? Pretty freakin awesome. You can play nearly a month for free (can't beat that!), come talk to us and we'll get you guys hooked up!

Exactly. PM one of us and we can set you up with a 21-day free trial, which is 7 days more than if you were to just sign up on your own. Plus, if you subscribe to eve, we can earn a free month for our referral. :)

I laughed, I cried. It moved me. Most of the gameplay is exceedingly dull, but then again, I never really got into a great corporation to play with!

I really loved the story, should keep a log called "Eve eGO Stories/Diaries" I might just try the game out sometime again.

Losing the cargo in the cormorant was the least of our losses, really.

The cormorant total in its cargo was approximately 200 million.

Each drake is approximately 50 million
The nighthawk tips the scales at 210 million
EXE's pod had approximately 100 million worth of implants
And my pod had in excess of 950 million in implants

@ BubbaSparx

The story may have been quite a read, but when it was all said and done, the fight was under 2 minutes.

The game is slow to start, but with the right people to answer questions for you, its not as "complicated" as it seems.

If you guys have any questions bout the game, or would like extended free trials hop down to the eve channels in vent, I'm sure someone will accommodate you

Running missions is hardly boring. Running missions by yourself can get tedious, but that's why we have a corp. I have much more fun running missions with my friends then most other things in EVE.

wait did i read that right ..you can choose to pay you monthly subscription with in-game currency ???

Yes, you can purchase one month blocks of game time with in-game isk.

Sure can. In general, it will take you a couple of months to get to the point where you can make that kind of ISK, but once you're established, it's not terribly hard to make that kind of ISK in a month.

To the people who have tried and got frustrated or bored or just plain lost.

I played eve a few years back for a trial period and said too confusing and boring. then a friend got me to come back after a few months and we got into a good corporation. much more fun and had all my questions answered and had some fun but RL problems i had to leave after like 2-3 months.

I have been playing again for a few days and i have to say with the eGO team helping out, this has gone smooth as silk. you just do the beginner missions to get trained up but mainly to get free gear, ships and money. essentially its the same with any mmo or many FPS that have skill and weapon progression. sure it can be boring getting your skills up the first few weeks or months. but once you get the kool gear, it only gets better the longer you play. you have your times in games when you get bored but then there are the other times when stuff like the story above happens and you remember why you log on to game in the first place.

i cant wait to join the guys in the wormhole and with their help i am progressing faster than before when i started.
