Hey ladies and gentleman,

today me and the rest of my co-hosts recorded the first episode of the EdgeGamers podcast and we did it in Ventrilo. The file it comes into is called a .vrf file, and I need to convert it into a mp3 file so I can edit it, anyone who can help me will be thanked in the next episode.

Thanks.

PLEASE NOTE: it is not a normal file, much more difficult to work with it because if it was easy it would have been done already.

I don't think you can, try playing it back on ventrillo and recording it to another audio recording program. I believe in windows you can set your output sound (what comes out of your speakers) as an input (like what a mic would use) , you could then use sound recorder to record it.

there's a couple ways.

one involves recording using your windows devices (Basically change your microphone inputs to your speaker outputs)

Or you can go the route of downloading Audacity(you'll also need Lame MP3 encoder)

or microsoft encoder and just split the audio from the "video"

etc pick a method and I can specify more :3

lets hear more about the Audacity and the encoder as a backup, I really need to get this done

i read through it but my computer does not have this 'Stereo Mix' option they were talking about, what about this encoder? How does that work?

What OS do you have?

Microsoft encoder is a way to capture your screen as a video (and audio along side)

you'd just dump your video output into a movie editor (e.g. Windows moviemaker) and strip the audio itself)

though I'd reccomend the sterio mix setting

try:
1. Click the Start Button, type MMSYS.CPL in the Start Search box and press Enter.

2. On Recording tab, right-click on the blank area

3. Check “Show Disabled Devices” and “Show Disconnected Devices” and the Stereo Mix should show up.

ok I found the stereo mix thing, and I try to record with it on in Audacity, i get an error message reading "Error while opening sound device, please check the input device settings and the project sample rate"

edit -> preferences -> audio i/o menu, make sure the number of channels is either 1 or

sometimes you have to change your "recording device" basically you got the most generic error possible :P

I changed it to 1, and for my recordin device I have Stereo mix, I think it should be fine, but it isnt
