I was just wondering if anybody here has ever been or is presently in an Armed Drill Team?
I am the Commander of my school's Color Guard and Drill Team so i was just wondering if we could discuss items about this subject!

Erm Not yet. But hopefully will become a Drill Sergeant.. I like Torturing new recruits in the army :D

oh, i'm talking about exhibition drill, with rifles, you spin them. But that is pretty awesome you are shootin' for a Drill Sergeant! Good Luck with that.

hmm i was the armed drill team commander when i was in grade 11/12 AFJROTC. it was lots of fun =) i dont' know how much i'd be able to help since what i did was teach Canadian marching drill (since i was originally in the Royal Canadian Army Cadets before i moved to the states) and we did the silent exbition using that which still won us 2nd place.=)
The hardest part is thinking up a good routine and making sure you don't go out of bounds. (train in a small area!!!)

good luck!

twirling fake guns?.....that sure sounds like fun...but if they were loaded that would be exciting...and dangerous.....mmm no i dont plan on it

I hate rifle drill lol. Mostly because the rifle drill I've done is REMEDIAL drill consisting of holding the rifle at length in various positions.

My old Master Corporal was on a Drill Team though. It was pretty nuts the stuff he could do with one.

Hey, that is pretty neat, making up a routine is kind of easy for myself, it's making up new moves, that is the difficult part. Plus i don't have too many team members, which is the worst part of all. We BARELY have enough to compete and we don't even have enough rifles. I have about six or seven cadets that are completely committed but the others are still kind of messing around. Do you remember the names of the moves that you did in your routines? Or if not that, do you remember how you executed them? I have plenty of new moves that i made up over Christmas break but more help, especially from a former commander, would REALLY help. Our Drill is Silent as well and we are really practicing hard on precision and timing, which is what its all about, right? What rifles did your team use?

We are using Springfield's, except not the light ones, just old Spring's from the World Wars filled with lead. They barely meet the Competition Standards, which sucks because we cannot do suicides because of the weight limit being too much which is a real bummer because that is kind of a specialty for my cadets and I.

Hey Bootz, sorry I would love to help, but i honestly don't remember much about the name of the moves and such (this was 3 years ago). i remember the moves themselves, but not the names.

but like i said, the moves were fairly limited since the rifles weighed like 12 lbs. so not very much flipping around 4 meters into the air =(

Nah, it's alright
yeah, our rifles only weigh about 10 lbs. so i guess it is a little easier to control.
Thank you for your help though :)
