(via reddit again)

but the most important/interesting paragraph:
Five Steam community members participated in the initial round of content creation. Rob Laro, Shawn Spetch, Steven Skidmore, Spencer Kern, and Shaylyn Hamm created items for Team Fortress 2 which were then made available to other community members for purchase from the in-game Mann Co. Store. Today they received checks for the first two weeks of sales, with royalties ranging from $39,000 to $47,000 per person.

So um, who all here is going to try to make something for the next contest?

So if all the creators got a 25% split...
Then the total revenue of just the community made items was probably around $860k.

And that's only for the new items. That $860k or so doesn't include keys/buying the old items/hats.

Blender FTW! I could use some of that money, lol! Wow, imagine how much money Valve made...

Wait, so they get this money to use in-game or use in real life? Thats just crazy, i should start making items!
