Benchmarking Thread!

I say we start this again, the results will eb different because more people will get involved, like me for example i would have won the uniengine heaven benchmark with a score of 1689 and thats with GTX 275 SLI.

I think this could be alot of fun, if i had known i would have participated for sure.

Im think front page news post on the competitions!? maybe?

While that would be amazing, I've talked to a person higher up in the chain, and they pretty much said that this sub-forum isn't too important, so I don't see it being on the front page.

And please post a picture, not a bunch of text. It's quicker to read, and if you link it properly, takes up much less space.

I've thought about starting up this thread again, but there isn't really any new benchmarks. And I don't know about other people, but I'm still using the same rig I was last time. :/

Not to mention quite a few people get intimidated by people with beastly rigs that score 100fps more than the other people.

CoreTemp only reads down to 0, but the temp sensors in this bios say -77:


Underload, it is still like -70 :)

What higher ups did you talk to?

I could talk to some people in council.... You know since I am a council member.

I think it could be really neat. And if we come up with an interesting benchmark... maybe average nvidia vs average ati scores on such and such benchmark and make it a brand rivalry thing instead of a solo quest for greatness. I don't know its worth exploring.

BUT that song "its friday" link in your sig, HONESTLY HAS TO BE THE WORST SONG I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE. I cant believe 149m people have actually looked at that video.

I don't remember. But he pretty much said I was unimportant and the clan was focused on gaming, not tech stuff.

I'm all for it, man. Just give me some benchmarks and I'll do the rest. That sounds pretty cool, too. We'd have to get a lot of contestants, and make separate top 10's for each brand.

Or, if people are up to it, we can have an overclock edition, where your score is the percent increase from stock vs overclocked (no LN2, relfex) so it's fair.

Ill work on it, I love your ideas as well. We need to keep the tests DX10 so people with older stuff can participate...

This should be fun at least.

On a side note,

I switched from that i7 950 @ 4.2ghz on an evga X58 FTW mobo to a i7 2600k on a new asus p8Z68 Pro board... rocking out @ 4.6ghz so far.
 
iJelly. How's the Z68 chipset? If you have an SSD, did you notice an increase in performance?

Yeah, sadly. If we have enough people, I would for sure do it. I just need to know that my time wouldn't be wasted, you know?
 
2600K was really awesome chip while i had it.

Z68 sounds cool. SSD Caching looks boss
 
I have a crucial realSSD300 128gb. It is about the same as it was with the x58 board as they both use the same marvel controller.

This board also has Intel SATA6 as well. Reads are on par but writes are slower than the marvel controller.

As far as SSD caching I am not using it at the moment as I do not think I will get any increase in speed. However, one day when this SSD is getting old and i get a new one i might do it just because I can lol.

Main reason i went Z68 was it is supposed to be able to handle ivy bridge later this year. And it seemed the industry is shifting from p68.

i7 860 + P55-GD80

I had both the 2600K and the 860 at one point, but someone offered me more than i bought the 2600+board for, so I sold them at a profit.

This was during the recall, so functional P67 boards + cpu were few and far between.

Pretty good deal if you ask me.

I also have a few Phenom II's lying around, and a couple 775 procs. Mostly for benching though. Benching intel is a pain in the ass. AMD is much more fun.

All the reviews online state that the Marvel controller is slower than the Intel controller. And that you should use the SATA II ports which are supposed to be more stable and faster than the Marvel SATA III ports. What are you feelings on this?

My computer build.

So far, as I do make minor changes here and there my new computer build will be:

Case: Lian Li PC-X900

Mobo: I'm waiting for the new version of ASUS Maximus IV Extreme Z board.

CPU: Intel i7 1155 - 2600k

Sound: Asus Xonar Xense

HDD: OCZ VERTEX 3 240GB SSD SATA III - (2) on a RAID O configuration, on the Intel SATA 6 ports. Used for my system boot and all my games.

HDD2: Seagate Baracuda XT 2TB SATA III - Probably use the SATA II ports for these drives since the Marvel SATA 6's have been getting bad reviews. These drives will be set in a RAID 1 configuration for internal data backup.

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X 2200 mhz 8gb 2x4 - Two 4gb sticks for starters. I'll have room to expand to 16gb if needed.

Video: Nvidia EVGA GTX-580 Hydro Copper - (2) video cards in SLI setup.

PSU: Antec High Current Pro HCP-1200 or the Corsair AX1200.

KB: Logitech G510

Mouse: Cyborg/Seitek R.A.T. 9 or 7 or the Logitech G700

Optical: Lite-On Blue Ray Burner with lightscribe

UPS: Tripp-Lite Smart 2200RM2U - 1920 watts battery backup so if the power goes out, I can get a few more minutes of gaming before I safely shut my system down.

Liquid Cooling system will be the Koolance ERM-2K3U Copper external system. Its around a $1,300.00 liquid cooling system and designed for cooling 4 servers. I've been using Koolance liquid cooling solutions for over 6 years now and very pleases with there performance and reliability. There liquid cooling systems are more geared towards the server and super computer cooling but are also in the gaming liquid cooling world too for benchmarkers and overclockers. I would love to use liquid nitrogen, but its too expensive to use for continuous gaming that exceeds 4+ hours and can be dangerous to your health and computer if used improperly.

I will be liquid cooling and overclocking my cpu to a stable 5 to 5.2ghz and overclocking my video cards to around 900+mhz. I might even liquid my ram since I will be pushing them to the 2166mhz levels.

Theres other stuff I didn't mention that I'm adding to this build like lights, sound dampening materials and other drive peripherals and software.

I'm just waiting for the newer board release before I start building.
