EdgeGamers Organization Newsletter
November 2010 Edition

This month we would like to start off with a word from one of our community managers:

The past month has seen major changes within EdgeGamers. We added 2 Council members, an innovative division and new leadership for TF2. Each of these events has its own story to report, but there is a back story that should be told as well.

Every addition or policy change in eGO is the result of, first, the inception of an idea, followed by thorough research and lengthy discussions in Council. Sometimes there's heated debate, but the objective is always to do what's best for the community. The Council exists to serve eGO and to do it's best to provide what our membership demands.

Each member of your Council was called upon by the Community Managers and takes on a heavy load when they agree to lead in this lofty position. The responsibilities are great in this time consuming position. To date, no one who has taken the post on Council has ever asked for anything in return and there are no special ribbons or awards to bestow on them. However, the Community Managers would like to recognize the essential contributions of these members in this newsletter.

Thank you all. EdgeGamers exists because of you.
Artimus

Thank you Artimus for opening the door a little into how Council works. With that, we will get into the news from the rest of the Community. As you may notice, there have been more promotions this month, and we would like to extend our congratulations to everyone who has assumed a new position this month.

Counter Strike: Source (CS:S)

We recently had a new promotion in Counter Strike: Source (CSS), so please give a warm welcome to Fart Vader as our newest Advisor. We know he will do well, so everyone please send him congratulations and fill his inbox with spam!

We have some good news, we are getting our scrim team back. We had a VERY strong team back when Final BattleGround (FBG) was still up, and now we hope to create a even stronger team to contend in the new league. We currently are working on getting at least 2 functioning teams going for some scrims against sG Clan.

There was a new Jail plugin that has been installed. We expect to keep fine tuning and making sure all goes well. Also, Christy has been working on some great new Jail maps and we can't wait to try them out.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (BC2)

Through the hard work of all of our members, the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (BC2) division has passed a turning point and seems to have come out for the better. The BC2 Leadership roster had expanded to include Leftenent. After his initial hazing from Duality, leadership has only had good things to say about him, so feel free to spam him your “congratulatory wishes".

This month the number of recruits has risen considerably. We would like to point out our top recruiters; Texas is South with 9 recruits, V-FIN with 4, and RoffleWoffle with 3. Great work combining game time with getting new members to join our community! Remember, if you wish to be a part of the BC2 recruiting team, send a message expressing your interests to either Leftenent or noxx_. Keep in mind that you do not need to be a part of this team to recruit new members into eGO.

Personnel Service Center (PSC)

During the month of October many exciting events happened. To start off we would like to congratulate our very own Razor1 on his Medal of Honor Award. We would like to extend further congratulations to jeod66 and Matt With A Cat, as they received the Medal of Honor Award as well.

We would like to announce that on the weekend of Halloween, the Personel Service Center (PSC) and the Day of Defeat: Source (DoD:S) Division combined forces and presented the Halloweekend Fragfest Event. A big thank you to all of the participants of the event. A great time was had by all, and congratulations go out to the following winners:

Day of Defeat: Source (DoD:S)

It's been a busy month for the Day of Defeat: Source (DoD:S) Division. First off, as you may have noticed, we have added two new Advisors to our Leadership team, Boyle and Greenlight Terror. Both are longtime members, and we look forward to working with them. Sadly, we must say goodbye to Matt with a Cat, who has left DoD:S to become the Division Leader of the new eGO Strategy Division. We'd like to wish him the best of luck there!

Great news: Recruiting is up! But it's not "quite" where we want it to be yet, by any means. Blue Stealth is handling our divisional recruiting, and we will be handing out prizes and awards for recruiting once again! Please see the forums for more details. Angreifen has generously sponsored the "grand prize" for this contest, a copy of the new Call of Duty: Black Ops...get out there and recruit!

Over the Halloween weekend, we held the Halloweekend Frag Fest, sponsored in part by the Personel Service Center (PSC) Division.

Strategy Division (STR)

For a while now RuneScape, League of Legends, and Starcraft II have been part of many discussions in EdgeGamers Organization (eGO). The community has shown great enthusiasm for these games and the added camaraderie that they bring to us. Although these games could not stand on their own within our community, they support each other in an unexpectedly symbiotic way. With GardenGroveVW's insight into forming this amalgam, Kamakize Tommy gathered many talented leading members of these games and formed what is now the Strategy Division (STR).

The STR Division is accepting recruits, and hopes to outclass all of the other divisions with its prowess in this field. If you are playing in any of those games and see people who show the potential for being members of our community, please invite them to visit us!

Each section of the Division will give a quick run-through of things that it is doing or has plans for in the near-future. First will be StarCraft II, then RuneScape, and finally League of Legends.

World of Warcraft (WoW)

Quaffer and iWhiskey chat about WoW:

Quaffer: What is the most fun you’ve had in an event in WoW?
iWhiskey: Well the most fun I’ve ever had playing World of Warcraft was last night. We had a party of ten raiding Ice Crown Citadel, where the Lich King can be found, and an undead dragon flew down and chased the party through the halls. Another thing we really enjoy are the steam tonk battles. Players get to remote control steam tonks (tanks) and attack other player’s tonks. Our next Steam Tonk Battle is November the 18th. Check the EdgeGamers calendar for time and location.

Team Fortress 2 (TF2)

The Team Fortress 2 Division (TF2) would like to apologize for getting a little carried away with the whole Halloween theme. In our efforts to frighten as many people as possible, we not only promoted Idol to Division Leader, but we spliced TF2 with the MOD division to form some unspeakable horror. While it is undetermined at present if this merger is temporary, or will morph into something more permanent, we are certain Azathoth is pleased as we in the TF2 division welcome our hatless brethren from MOD.

Valve's 2nd Annual Halloween Event, complete with Horseless Headless Horseman, was a huge success. The Division devoted two servers to the Mann Manor map, a non-Euclidean complex designed to drive mere mortals insane. To no one's surprise the Pyro remained unaffected by this Gothic geometry. Running concurrently with the Mann Manor, the Division sponsored a Halloween-themed bounty hunt. The 1st Annual Monster Mash, conceived and organized by the not-quite-terrifying Marine4God, is expected to pay out over 1 million casino monies in bounties along with the coveted Bounty Hunter award. Any rumors that this award is actually a malevolent artifact from another dimension capable of granting its possessor psychic powers are purely unfounded.

Modification Division (MOD)

The month of November has been very busy for the Modification (Mod) Division thus far. In order to alleviate some pressure on the Team Fortress 2 (TF2) Division, the Mod Leadership has agreed to team-up with the TF2 leadership and provide them with much needed backup. With our combined forces we hope to iron out any wrinkles that the recent changes to the TF2 leadership may have caused. We are also proud to announce a recent change in leadership that has seen the promotions of !EpIc fAiL! and DigitalDJ as Advisors. Congratulate them when you see them in server or Ventrilo!

This month Mod is rolling out some new events such as the 2v2 competition and the RnL Olympics. RnL Olympics is a series of events held over a weekend which include, but are not limited to: duck hunt, bowling, racing, and bottle shooting.

Call of Duty (CoD)

The Call of Duty (COD) Division welcomes the new Call of Duty: Black Ops game to our lineup. With the new release, our forums are buzzing with talk of the game, with posts ranging from game release glitches to workarounds that have been found. Please welcome 4 new servers that we've added:

Team DeathMatch:173.199.102.54:3074

The PSC and our CSS Recruiting group are working diligently on getting more members into the community. If you feel like you would be a good fit for this kind of duty, please join the CSS Recruiting group. We have some fun new recruiting events scheduled soon, so be on the look out for that as well. Beta has been working hard on his program for some time now, and it seems to be working out very well.

Our de_dust server has not been as popular as usual. We would like you guys to hop in there and recruit some new pubs into the eGO community! Don't forget that you can go in there and see if you can get the best of DanJK, who is our king of Dust.

Keep in mind that you do not need to be a part of this team to recruit new members into eGO.

On to our servers - A hardcore mix mode server, which is a combination of Conquest and Rush, has been added to the lineup. So far the server numbers show promise. In the short duration that this server has been running it has jumped up approximately 200 ranks per week, and quickly surpassed the Conquest server! The rest of the lineup appears to be steady, with an exception of the regular Rush server. It has been showing a steady decline in its rankings. So, if you love the server then load up your copy of the game and help save the server by unloading lead and explosives into your friends!

The foreseeable future of the division has two main goals. These goals are the continual recruitment of people into the division, and preparing for the coming expansion of BC2 Vietnam. There has been discussion among Leadership about the possibility of offering bigger awards for long term recruiters, and there have even been hints of awarding copies of the upcoming BC2: Vietnam expansion.

On that note, the Bad Company 2 Vietnam expansion pack comes out this winter holiday for only $15! We recommend that you buy it and continue your support of our great division.

We would like to give a special thanks to all the people, especially Spray, who helped out to make this event possible. Keep an eye out for a PSC event coming to your division soon. We hope to make these kind of events a regular occurrence for our community.

The Team Fortress 2 Meet n’ Greet was a great success. The next Meet n’ Greet is set for the MOD Division, so watch out for a post about that. The date and time will be announced shortly. As always, if you are an eG or above and interested in joining the PSC, please contact one of our Advisors and they will give you more information about our division and how you can help us out!

Unfortunately, we had to make a change in our 24/7 server roster due to low demand and gameplay, replacing Kalt with a new 24/7 Argentan server. Please bear with us as the bugs and kinks are worked out. We're looking into possibilities for new events and an Anzio Instant Respawn server.

While on the subject of events and the Kalt server, a new Kalt event will be running on Friday nights at 9PM EST from now on. It will be a "vanilla" event: pure Kalt on the events server with your host, KillerxDebo. We look forward to seeing you all there!

As a last little bit of an addendum, we would like to congratulate all of our new eG's and eGO's. For those who did not notice, we had a bit of a surprise promotion this month. If you are an e, we would recommend that you visit the News Center to see if you were part of those promotions! And finally, we are planning on holding a division wide roll-call towards the end of November, so please keep an eye out for it in the DoD:S general forums.

StarCraft II - First off, we would like to announce the promotion of the newest SC2 STR division Advisor, Funn3lcak3s. StarCraft II's events up to this point have been tournaments and a recurring round table. Starcraft II's round table is scheduled for every Thursday at 9PM EST in Ventrilo. If you have anything you wish to discuss about this game with Leadership, please feel free to attend.

RuneScape - RuneScape has done a great job with events up to this point. Events have included Clan Wars Night and Dungeoneering Night, which are hosted by ki11zjoy and Joshcash. Other RuneScape specific items that you should know about are World 141/31, (which are the official EdgeGamers world that we host events on), and Clan Chat, which is the official EdgeGamers clan chat. You can find it by using the channel name of "egoclan".

League of Legends - League of Legends (LoL) has started with a bang. The Advisors who are leading LoL business are Mister Adam and Aneruen. We would like to announce and congratulate our newest member of the STR Division event coordinator team, Lava. The first event that Lava is hosting for LoL is "All random all Mid" (ARAM) on Wednesdays. Essentially, this event consists of everyone joining a certain map and rushing "Mid". This creates an all out bloodbath, so if you are available on that night, why not join us and enjoy the carnage?

Quaffer: How many guild members do you have?
iWhiskey: The Alliance and the Horde both have over 200 members.

Quaffer: What are you looking forward to in WoW.
iWhiskey: Blizzard Entertainment is releasing a new expansion called Cataclysm. They will introduce new races and much more. Everyone is looking forward to it.

Quaffer: Any thoughts you’d like to share with your readers?
iWhiskey: Anyone interested in giving WoW a try should come check out our division forums. There are usually trial memberships available for the asking.

TF2 Newspost

Idol

The Team Fortress 2 Division (TF2) would like to apologize for getting a little carried away with the whole Halloween theme. In our efforts to frighten as many people as possible, we not only promoted Idol to Division Leader, but we spliced TF2 with the MOD division to form some unspeakable horror. While it is undetermined at present if this merger is temporary, or will morph into something more permanent, we are certain Azathoth is pleased as we in the TF2 division welcome our hatless brethren from MOD.

Any rumors that this award is actually a malevolent artifact from another dimension capable of granting its possessor psychic powers are purely unfounded.

Moving forward with our servers, the Division is pleased to report that Egypt, Blackmesa, and 2Fort IR are all doing well. Player count on 2Fort FS is improving, and the spawn timers on Turbine have been set to a more playable level, so spread the word. To prove its madness, the Division is considering unearthing some more antediluvian nightmares best left forgotten. Such fevered dreams as a Vanilla TF2 mod and 24/7 Payload maps could soon be troubling our servers.

The Division recently held a divisional meeting in Ventrilo. This ghastly convention was an opportunity to hear about the state of the Division and address feedback to leadership firsthand. We look forward to making this gathering a regular occurrence until it becomes sentient and exacts its terrifying vengeance upon mankind. Other regularly scheduled fiendish delights, certain to test the sanity of all but those who possess the strongest of constitutions, are the Admin Roundtable, the Advanced Admin Class (*gasp*), and overpowering onslaught of events, events, and more events. Interested parties are encouraged to join the TF2 Steam Group in order to peer more deeply into the Stygian abyss.

As most of you already know, Saturday, November 13th, will mark the 850th anniversary of the marriage of Louis VII and Ad?le of Champagne. To celebrate this joyous occasion, the Division is preparing another round of promotions, followed by feasting, a vuvuzela concerto, and much fragging. Featured menu items will be e to eG scones, eG to eGO pudding, and boiled spy-crab with secret blend of herbs and spices. Just what is in that secret blend? Few men dare ask this question. All those who investigated this substance are now either dead or driven insane by what eldritch horrors they found.

We wish you many hats and happy fragging. Cthulhu Fhtagn!

RnL Olympics is a series of events held over a weekend which include, but are not limited to: duck hunt, bowling, racing, and bottle shooting. Each day three events on a EdgeGamers Organization (eGO) custom map are chosen, and at the end of the Olympic event the top people with the highest points are awarded casino cash. We are also revisiting some classics, such as the kicking off the next season of the 5v5 League, and bringing back recurring events of Monday Night Madness and the INS Bootcamp Training. For more information on these events, including dates and times, visit our Divisional Discussion forums.

We have also opened the League Server to the public. This is our diabolic effort to have 3 servers in the top 5 Insurgency server rankings. We aim for the top! And, as always if you have any questions or comments about our division, you can find a member of our leadership in Ventrilo!

The Call of Duty (COD) Division welcomes the new Call of Duty: Black Ops game to our lineup. We are happy to add a new game to the COD division after the lack of dedicated server support from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2(MW2), which did not let us fully support the game in our division. With the new release, our forums are buzzing with talk of the game, with posts ranging from game release glitches to workarounds that have been found. Please welcome 4 new servers that we've added:

Team DeathMatch:173.199.102.54:3074
Search And Destroy: 173.199.102.55:3074
Capture The Flag: 173.199.103.107:3074
HardCore Team DeathMatch: 173.199.103.54:3074

We are aware of the game bugs and the lack of a "/connect" command, and are hoping for a update from Treyarch in the near future. There seems to be a lag/fps issue going around Black Ops and we've got some fixes that seem to be working. Follow this link, http://tinyurl.com/25j6vex, and you will find a list of configs that might improve game play.

As we all adapt to the new game you can be sure that our Event team is thinking up new ideas. If you happen to have any good event ideas for this game please feel free to send Stick or Frikfry a friendly PM.

For those of you who are afraid that this new game will hurt our founding game, rest assured that we are not letting go of COD4 just yet. In a surprise turn around, the Leadership was stunned to see the 24/7 CROSSFIRE server break 100 on the server listing. We're seeing a lot of people head to our division to support the new game and we're happy that people are hoping on. Thank you everyone for your support of the COD Division.
