For the past few months, I've been frustrated because my graphic card is crap. I can't play games like BFBC2, MW2, Black Ops, and other games. Now, I think its time for me to get a new graphics card. However, when it comes to computer specifications, I suck. That's why I've decided to ask you guys to help me choose a good graphic card that can handle one of the new games.

My Computer Specs:
(I copied and paste it)

Manufacturer: HP
Model: p6310f
Processor: AMD Athlon (tm) II x4 630 Processor 2.80 GHz
Installed Memory (RAM): 6.00 GB (5.75 GB usable)
Graphic Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9100

My budget is 100-200$. I need a good graphic card that can handle all my favorite games without being on low settings.

For now, all I know is how to install the graphics card. You have to open your computer and put in some disc...lol -- If you guys have any other information that you think is important...please tell me.

Thanks!

I just investigated your HP pavilion and found that the power supply is a 300w one, I think, based on what other HP user said in a forum. It should be fine for small video cards most likely AMD (ATI), I recommend the HD 5750 which peaks at 108w. Although is a little risky, it depends on the amps it delivers.

A PSU with 300w is fine for today requirements you should think buying a new one preferably a 600w just to be safe and relaxed. Warning not all 600w PSU deliver the above mention power constantly, you need to go with a good and trusty brand like Antec, OCZ, Enermax, Seasonic, Corsair. Look for the ones with an 80plus certificate symbol and 30+ amps on the 12v rail.

lol wat.

He could run up to a GTX 460 comfortably on that psu. Right now his rig draws like 150w under load, (maybe 200w in prime/furmark)

The 5750 draws more like 80w (ok, maybe you could get 100w in furmark, but who the hell runs furmark all day)

I Suggest that you look into any of the following cards:

$100:
Radeon 5750

$110 ($80 AR):
GTS 450

$140 ($100 AR)
Radeon 5770

$150 ($130 AR):
GTX 460 768MB

$180 ($170 AR):
GTX 460 1GB

$190 (no rebate :( )
Radeon 6850

On this list, the higher priced cards perform better.

Thanks for investigating my HP Pavilion but I have no idea what your saying below...

Thanks for having the list with different graphics card. Just curious...will the 100$ graphics card run smoothly if I play BFBC2?

Lol sorry i overextended myself wont happen again promise. :facewall:

Just follow reflex advise and blame him if something goes wrong.:P

What settings and resolution do you play at?

Normal screen resolution is 1600x900. However, if I play CS:S my resolution is lower because that improves my FPS.

lol...at least you helped :P

Any of those cards will play CSS maxed out at 1600x900.

If you want to play BC2 maxed out, then probably got with at least the 5770. If you can stand to lower some settings, any of the cards would be fine.

If you buy that particular 5750, or any of the GTX460s, you will need to buy one of these as well. Unless your power supply has PCIe connectors:

EDIT: This 5750 comes with one of the adapters:

Thanks for helping, I'll probably get the 5750

Edit: I'm just curious are any of those graphics card available at best buy, frys, walmart, or target? I just remembered I can't order online stuff...

Fry's will have at least something simmilar.

If you don't have a credit card:

O yea, I forgot about this. A few months ago, I bought a 25$ gift card to donate to eGO and to buy stuff. So now, I'll just get the 100$ visa gift card and get one of the graphics card. Out of all the 100-125$'s graphics card, which one do you think is best? Thanks for helping reflex. :)

The GTS 450 is faster than the 5750, but it will use *slightly* more power.

Some people say that ATI cards work better with BC2 than nvidia cards, but I don't know it that is really true.

Yea, 5750 was already suggested. At that price though, you might aswell get a GTS 450

Since I live near Fry's I decided to buy directly from the store because it's easier. Also, if there's something wrong with the graphics card, I can just return it. Anyways, here are a few graphics card I found that I can buy directly from the store:

HD Radeon - http://www.frys.com/product/6065198?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG - The problem with this graphics card is I need the adapter but frys doesn't sell them.

PNY GTS 450 - http://www.frys.com/product/6423932?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG - It seems perfect to me because it has the adapter ready. The question is... On average, how many FPS will I get playing Black ops/BFBC2 with medium/high settings?

PNY GTX 460 - http://www.frys.com/product/6375801?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG - It comes with the adapter (just like the PNY GTS 450). A bit more expensive, but I think I can afford it...Same question. How many FPS will I get when playing Black ops/BFBC2 with medium/high settings?

Those were the 3 main one I found. If you got any other graphics card that frys is selling, can you post them? And are there any other important things I need? Or is the graphics card+adapter=Fun Gaming time?

Any of those cards will play Blops maxed out. The 5750 and 450 might stuggle a little to max out BC2, but would be fine at slightly lowered settings (especially if you turned off HBAO)

Great, I'll buy the PNY GTS 450. I don't mind putting things on low settings, so everything should go well. Is there anything else I need to know? Or do I just purchase the graphics card and install it into my computer?

Thanks for helping Reflex! :)

Should be fine. If you need any help installing it, we can deal with that when we get there.
