More lag on games

Hey guys, I am getting more lag on games lately. I know for sure its not graphics lag. I have an ATI Radeon 5770. I was talking with some other friends and he suggested that my computer was over heating and told me I may need a new cooling fan. I have 8 gigs of RAM. I have 593 GB free out of 919 GB on my hard drive. Also, I was thinking about getting a new router or modem. (Which ever matters.) I currently have a Linksys router. I have the serial number if wanted. Also, I have a Netgear modem. I know I have had both modem and router for more than 3 years. Maybe time to upgrade? I dont know.

First things first, overheating very rarely lags your computer. Most computers just shut off when they overheat. That's my understanding and experience, at least. When my computer lags, I always can fix it by optimizing the registry and startup. I'll walk you through this if you're running Windows.
